This was an argument advanced to great acclaim by Norman Angell in his book The Great Illusion.
His thesis was that economic interdependence would guarantee peace, and it was published in 1909.
This is Mrs Thatcher appearing on Saturday Superstore. Idea that past politicians didn’t do anything beyond news interviews is just nostalgia.
Little doubt that @JamesCleverly is the outstanding candidate. This is one of the biggest and most important directly elected offices in Europe. A globally great city needs a big hitter as Mayor.

A new IPPR report says we should stop publishing school performance measures.
I thought it was weird for the IPPR to endorse an obviously destructive idea.
But, oh look, the report is funded by a trade union sock puppet. Shame on IPPR for taking the shilling from the wreckers.
This is pretty shitty towards an all round legend. As Dwight Yoakam told Colombia Records CEO when they dropped Johnny Cash, “that guy built your f*cking studio”.

It’s fascinating how French politicians have a much longer shelf life than British ones. Chirac and Mitterrand were around for years before becoming President. Le Pen has been running since 2012.

.@ruhawksley recently in the @spectator on ‘Can the gambling industry survive Labour’s prohibitionists?’
In truth, these guys are prohibitionists not reformers. Terrible finger wagging campaign to tell working class people what they’re allowed to do.
It’s time to raise tax on harmful, high-risk gambling machines.

There is no way that these machines can be made less “harmful” by increasing the tax on them. This campaign is fundamentally dishonest.

No explanation - for example they detect association with other accounts, trading tools etc etc. Just a dismissal. Their systems are advanced enough to provide a explanation
Then when all the bets are expired (it is suggested only then) can they withdraw via customer services. Rather than making a withdrawal via the site as usual
People tell me this firm an example of the ultimate success in betting. But their utter dismissal of any kind of value for the customer marks. Bet365, and those alike, as simply business. Not good business. And certainly not a paragon of good management
And whilst those in 365 can, and will, treat this view with disdain (look at our number of customers, bottom line etc) if this was a publicly traded company? Their share value in the last few years would have tanked.
And who, pray, is going to defend gambling with companies like this?

Less than six months to go until the first round of the French Presidential election. The outcome is arguably more significant and impactful for UK than the US mid terms. Please could we have more coverage and analysis of what it means for the UK.
