Indeed. And the patients (and physicians) should know from reading a clinical trial report what to expect- onset, severity, duration, impact on QOL, possibility of serious and fatal adverse events, all. academic.oup.com/jnci/advanc…
"The best medicine is the medicine you can take." Heard at the @BCRFcure Symposium, and it's the heart of what we are doing in our work as researchers. If patients can't tolerate a treatment, they can't benefit from it. #bcsm @oncology_bg

Just published in @JNCI_Now led by @lateuwen and in collaboration with @ChernyNathan.
We provide specific recommendations for improved adverse event reporting in cancer clinical trials. For a true shared decision making, these items are necessary, not “good to have”.

Practice changing #SWOG S18 MAVERICK trial by C Rusthoven. I think this should be seen as then end of using PCI in SCLC. Endpoints changed bc slow recruitment. Although more CNS mets pfs was the same. Less toxicity, which increases over time. Not a surprise, but well conducted.

I agree with your synthesis and understand both sides of the debate between OS and ORR. With increasing drug herding, OS will be contaminated as patients on control arms being able to access “me too drugs” via early phase trials.
But what is missing entirely in this is HOW patients are living. QoL and thriving with cancer (retaining function, wellbeing, identity) is something we measure very poorly on trials but probably one of the most important endpoints from a patient POV.
Hard to measure as it is a multifactorial endpoint that includes financial and time toxicity.
