The church of my Sewall anceators in #Coventry bombed in #WWII
Destroyed in a single night. 💔 For 700 years, Coventry Cathedral stood as a beacon of light. That is until November 14, 1940 ... I wrote this short spatial poem 8 years ago. It’s called "Silly Boys" 👇 #CoventryCathedral #WW2History #SpokenWordPoetry #AntiWar #HistoryTok

James Burke had only one chance to nail this scene. A clip from the 1978 BBC television show Connections, season 1, episode 8, “Eat, Drink, and Be Merry” which could be considered the best timed shot in television history.

General Joseph Warren's brothers, John and Eben, found his remains on Breed's Hill on April 5, 1776. A sexton had seen where Joseph fell when he was killed at the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775. After some digging they found his horribly decomposed and mutilated body identified by two artificial teeth fastened in his mouth with a gold wire that his friend Paul Revere had fashioned for him. What most people don't know is that Joseph's remains laid in state at the State House in Boston for three days until his funeral on April 8, 1776 at King's Chapel. So next time you visit the Old State House, stop for a minute and pay respects to Joseph Warren.

Ever seen an 850-YEAR-OLD book? 🤯📖 Imagine a Norman monk sitting in a scriptorium 850 years ago, hand-writing every single sentence of this Latin text with a quill. 🪶📜 #History #Medieval #BookTok #RareBooks #HiddenGem

🇺🇸 This American flag was handmade in Scotland by citizens working through the night. Why? They wanted to bury American soldiers under their own colors. Over 200 were killed when the SS Tuscania was torpedoed off their island of Islay in 1918. Four women and one man did the work. They used an encyclopedia as their guide and hand-sewed a 48 star American flag. Work finished around 2 a.m. to be ready for the first funerals that day. It was later sent to the White House and is now in the collections of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History. The women were Jessie McLellan, Mary Cunningham, Catherine McGregor, and Mary Armour. The man was John McDougall. Thank you! 🫡🇺🇸 Photo: NMAH

🇺🇸 This doll is called the “Silent Witness.” It was in the room with Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox Court House. When the meeting ended, Union officers went through the house looking for souvenirs. They found the doll and tossed it from hand to hand. Col. Horace Porter of Grant’s staff later wrote that the younger officers called it the “Silent Witness.” The doll was homemade. It belonged to a 7 year old girl named Lula McLean who lived in the house. Coarse unbleached cotton for the body. A plain round face. Ink for eyes. Capt. Thomas W. C. Moore of Sheridan’s staff took it. His family kept the doll for 127 years. In December 1992 it was given to Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, where it remains on exhibit. Lula never saw her doll again.
