Well lookie here.... they work on planes
University of Hong Kong researchers analyzed 40 airplane outbreaks of COVID-19 and flu.
Infection risk was highest near infected passengers.
Models found N95 masks nearly eliminated transmission, while doubling ventilation alone was insufficient.

Pleased to speak in Parliament today & to support the call for a national strategy - indoor air is the biggest opportunity for public health gain both in normal times & in prep for the next pandemic.

Sweden opts for coronavirus protein vaccine instead of mRNA
"From the 2027/2028 season onwards, Sweden will use only a protein-based coronavirus vaccine for its national vaccination campaign."

The elephant in the room isn’t just COVID. It’s our collective silence about its ongoing consequences.
Implicatory denial. Pluralistic ignorance. The normalization of preventable harm.
It must be especially painful when that silence exists within your own family, amid so much grief. Home should be the easiest place to acknowledge the elephant, yet sometimes it’s the hardest.
The longer we refuse to acknowledge the elephant, the bigger it grows. Eventually, it becomes bigger than the house itself.

My cousin who I haven’t spoken to since around 2021/2022 after she became irate after I shared Covid information with her grandmother, posted that she lost her Mom, son, and uncle in 2020.
She lost her step-sister, fiancé and who would have been in MIL in 2021.
She lost her best friend, brother, and two of her friends from high school in 2022. (She is in her mid 40s).
She lost her aunt, 2 cousins, a friend from work, and her manager in 2023.
She lost two dogs that originally belong to one of her cousins that passed on her father’s side after only having them for a few weeks in 2024.
The same year, her daughter who is now 11 years old, lost her best friend and her best friend’s Mom died. She also lost both of her remaining aunts.
In 2025, her department combined with another department at work because what used to be 8 people was now down to 2.
Three people died. Two went out on medical leave and didn’t return, and one went out on disability in December 2024.
She stated that most of her weekends in 2026 has been driving her grandmother to funerals..and that her grandmother has outlived all 6 of her children….5 daughters including her mother, (one daughter died in Nov/Dec 2019 from “pneumonia”), and a son.
THEN SHE SAID….. “I can’t even imagine Covid being as bad as the SUPER COLDS that they couldn’t shake. Knock on wood, none of us got Covid.”
….and for me…this is why distance is good to maintain sanity,

Sweden has procured Novavax (distributed by Sanofi) as its sole COVID-19 vaccine for the 2027/2028 season, effectively moving away from mRNA platforms. Sweden is the first country in the world to make this exclusive shift.
Reasoning for the Change: The Swedish government favored Nuvaxovid because it relies on traditional, well-established protein technology (similar to long-standing vaccines for Hepatitis B and HPV) and offers easier storage and handling requirements compared to mRNA vaccines.
Policy Adjustments for Younger Groups: Sweden previously advised against using Nuvaxovid for people under 30 due to historical concerns over myocarditis and pericarditis. However, representatives from the Public Health Agency (Folkhälsomyndigheten) stated that those specific heart inflammation concerns are no longer viewed the same way. The agency has lifted the age restriction well ahead of the Autumn 2027 rollout so the vaccine can be used broadly across eligible groups
There are strong hints regarding which countries might follow.
Japan is the most likely candidate to heavily favor @Novavax or heavily reduce its reliance on mRNA. Under the commercial leadership of Takeda, Nuvaxovid successfully climbed to become the second-most used COVID-19 vaccine in the country during the 2025–2026 season. Given the strong public infrastructure already established by Takeda for protein-based distribution, Japan remains a prime market for continuous non-mRNA adoption.
Germany and Canada: Public health agencies in these regions are actively framing @Novavax not just as a "niche backup" for people who refuse mRNA, but as a mainstream, peer-level choice for standard autumn booster campaigns.
Historically, the Nordic cluster (Denmark, Norway, and Finland) acts in close coordination with Sweden regarding vaccine logistics, safety assessments, and procurement. When Sweden paused Moderna for youth in 2021, the neighboring Nordic nations instituted nearly identical policies within days. Because Sweden’s Public Health Agency cited simpler storage requirements and a highly stable, well-understood traditional technology as major drivers, its neighbors are under close scrutiny to see if they will share the same procurement preferences.

Spain maintained substantial baseline SARS-CoV-2 sequencing and rapidly scaled up in response to PJ.2.1.
This novel saltation variant is spreading internationally, raising questions about the protection provided by updated vaccines and potential differences in host-cell interactions compared with previous variants.
A strong example of why sustained genomic surveillance matters. #PJ21 🇪🇸

Given COVID is a bigger risk, why aren’t you talking about that @YvetteCooperMP?
Why is eligibility for a COVID vaccine more restrictive than flu?
Also, why aren’t wearing masks recommended when getting your jabs….bearing in mind flu and COVID are airborne?
.@YvetteCooperMP explains why it's important to get the free NHS flu vaccination if you're eligible.
The vaccine is offered to people at higher risk of becoming seriously ill from flu.

I'd assumed, wrongly it seems, that BA.3.2's preference included infants. But look at RCGP's age breakdown today.
I'm not expecting a half-term dip anymorem
