The moral case for capitalism is that your life belongs to you. Your work, your savings and your plans don’t become somebody else’s property because they have a moving speech about how they’d use them.

Counterpoint: This is race is not going to be particularly close. Here are a bunch of reasons why: 1. Alan Wilson is going to have exceptional coattails. He wins by a minimum 10 points, and I think honestly probably closer to 12, despite the environment. 2. By contrast, there is zero interest and excitement in the Dem ticket. Andrews is a flawed and uninspiring candidate. Johnson - who should have been a pretty good gubernatorial candidate - has run an extremely meh campaign. For either of them to have a shot, they'd both need to be firing on all cylinders. The rest of the ticket is a veritable "Who's that?" of Democratic activists. 3. There is outside money being spent here, but not serious money. It's placation money. It's the political equivalent of buying your kid a pack of Skittles in the checkout line so they'll stop pitching a fit. Smart money doesn't think Andrews has a shot. 4. The SCDP turnout and GOTV operations are absolute ass (pun sort of intended). They are not investing in places where they could actually have an impact, and they're perpetually stuck on Hail Mary plays like Andrews instead of investing locally where small wins could impact the state more broadly. 5. Speaking of ground games....I'm a paid media guy through and through, but the ground game DOES matter in races like this. The SCGOP Victory program being lead by @SteveWMichael and the Team Graham effort being run by @MarkTKnoop are both really, really good and will be worth more than people think on election day. 6. The path to a Dem having a prayer in SC runs through CD1, and no serious person thinks Jenny Costa Honeycutt is going to lose to Nancy Lacore. 7. The write-in / third party effort from erstwhile conservatives is happening in a terminally online echo chamber. They're loud, not numerous. Whatever polling is showing today, it's going to shake out about like this: Graham 53, Andrews 46, 1 percent odds and ends.
Back me up, @KevinPWalling — I have been talking about this race for weeks.

Let’s do this!!
South Carolina’s agencies carried forward $3.12 billion last year. The state publishes more than 900 pages of financial documents, but not one clear page explaining what that money is for. I went looking for the answer. Watch the new episode of Show Me the Money and see what I found.

In order to build the safe and prosperous civilisation we have now, we hanged a very large number of men like this. Now, enjoying the benefits of that civilisation, we’ve become squeamish about the price tag. Might we end up losing it then?

❗️ Car apps are sending the vehicle's VIN and location for ad and tracking purposes to companies like Google, Meta, Microsoft, Snap, Adobe and data broker Acxiom, researchers found. Of the 30 carmaker apps tested, six sent the VIN to ad, tracking or analytics firms alongside an email, phone number or precise location, and four of those were made by General Motors. A VIN is a unique identifier that always stays with the car and can never be reset. The GM apps in question are myChevrolet, myCadillac, myBuick and myGMC.

General Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox and General Wade Hampton both would be good candidates for a movie biopic.
Name a famous American historical figure who needs a movie adaptation of their life. I'll start: Commodore Matthew Perry, the man who opened up Japan to the world.

I wouldn't work at the P&C were not for Autumn Phillips. I was a journalist in Casper, WY looking to take my next step. She was from Casper, and editor of a place I'd applied several times but never gotten an interview. She gave me my shot. RIP Autumn. postandcourier.com/news/autu…

Data centers require increased energy generation. Additional generation requires energy companies to build new power plants. If data centers require new power plant construction, they should pay the additional construction cost. That’s free market policy.

As Gavin Newsom comes to South Carolina to stump for the Annie Andrews and Jermaine Johnson, I think in a cost of living cycle, it's important we revisit some stats. Cost of living: #1 in the country (being number one isn't great in this category) Cost of a home: #2 in the country (Again, not good) Cost of rent: #1 in the country (starting to sense a trend) Home ownership rate: 49/50 in the country (if you are going to live in California, apparently don't expect to own a home because only 49% of folks are able to afford on there) Cost per gallon: #1 in the country according to AAA at around $5.78 a gallon Cost of insurance: 5th highest in the nation on average. Unemployment: 2nd highest in the country (Oregon wins this category). Price per pound of beef: $1-$2 above the national average Price per gallon of milk: 20% above the national average. So, in a cost of living cycle, the South Carolina Democrats, led by Jermaine Johnson and Annie Andrews are cheering bringing in a surrogate who is arguably the single worst champion of affordability in the country. Fascinating move!

We have officially moved from the failed disastrous boomer messaging on avocado toast keeping you from owning a home to the disastrous millennial messaging on burritos keeping you from buying a house
I hear that young people are upset about $20 burritos. Okay, young people: a burrito does not cost $20. If you’re paying $20 for a burrito and you’re not independently wealthy, you’re doing life wrong. We have enough problems as a country without insane expectations that the government is going to provide us gourmet-quality burritos. open.spotify.com/episode/0Ms…
