From a scouting perspective, @DPENN70 was one of the most overlooked offensive tackle prospects in the 2006 NFL Draft because of his rare combination of size, length, natural power, and athleticism. A four-year starter at @USUFootball, Penn started 44 consecutive games, first at right tackle before transitioning to left tackle, where he developed into one of the WAC’s most dependable blindside protectors 2006 Pre-Draft Measurements: Height: 6’4” Weight: 315 lbs Arm Length: 35⅜” Hand Size: 10⅜” On film, Penn consistently displayed the traits teams covet in a franchise offensive tackle. He possessed outstanding play strength, heavy hands, exceptional length, and excellent functional power at the point of attack. He generated movement with leverage, heavy hands, and leg drive while consistently sustaining and finishing blocks in the run game. In pass protection, he maximized his length to widen the quarterback’s pocket, forcing edge rushers to take longer paths to the passer. His balance, body control, and surprisingly light feet for a 315-pound lineman allowed him to mirror defenders and remain composed against speed and power What consistently stood out was his outstanding recovery ability. Even when initially stressed by speed or counter moves, Penn had the athleticism, flexibility, and core strength to reset his feet, regain leverage, and re-establish hand position without losing the rep. He also displayed outstanding football IQ, recognizing stunts, twists, and blitzes while communicating effectively along the offensive line Several traits consistently showed up on film: Outstanding size, length, and overall frame Powerful, heavy hands Excellent anchor against power rushers Good foot quickness and lateral mobility Outstanding recovery ability in pass protection Strong independent hand usage High football IQ and defensive recognition Physical, competitive finisher Durable and dependable performer Those same traits translated directly to the NFL. After signing as an undrafted free agent, Penn developed into one of the NFL’s most durable and dependable left tackles, starting 189 of 194 career games over 14 seasons, including an incredible streak of 170 consecutive starts. He earned three Pro Bowl selections (2010, 2016, 2017) and established himself as one of the league’s most reliable blindside protectors
