This is very reminiscent of Penny Mordaunt's 'Stand Up And Fight' peroration at the 2023 Tory conference: two speech endings written on the assumption that they'd be riding a wave of applause and cheering are instead heard in silence, and start sounding very silly as a result.
This is one of the most embarrassing things I’ve seen this year.

There's not one player in the Arsenal squad facing Birmingham today from the team that started in the notorious defeat at St Andrew's in January 2022, although Lotte Wubben-Moy did come on from the very sparse subs bench in that game.

Recent @elonmusk involvement in removing full Starlink access to Ukraine is the final straw. This account is no longer active. It was a great tool for our community as Twitter but as X it has been pretty useless, most followers no longer active here anyway. Sorry to let you down.

I've been obsessed with Rob Sand for a few years now, and this is a great profile. Yes, he's an incredible zealot about tackling waste and corruption, but he also seems genuinely curious about why our political systems are so geared to producing it, and how that can be fixed.

So sad to hear of Ken Friar’s passing. A truly great man who always supported the local community. Thank you, Ken, for everything. You’ll be greatly missed.
It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Life President Ken Friar OBE. Since our formation in 1886, there have been many inspirational individuals who have driven our club forward, but no one has had an influence on Arsenal Football Club quite like ‘Mr Friar’ and he leaves an extraordinary life of service to the club as his legacy. One that will surely never be matched. Rest in peace ❤️

I wish @PeteronPole would have the common sense sometimes to keep the music off at the end of an Arsenal game, and let the fans have the moment. If he wasn't blasting out 'Low Rider' at the end, we could actually sing the 'Mik Arteta' song, which is in a totally different tempo.

If it's any consolation to Andrew Griffith, one of the greatest speeches of all time - Errol Barrow's 'Mirror Image' speech, delivered forty years ago this May on the eve of the Barbadian general election, had a similarly abrupt ending: "Anyhow, ladies and gentlemen, I done."

Who was less sure whether he'd finished, the Shadow Chancellor or the audience?

I know we’ve only got ourselves to blame, but from a ‘growing the game’ perspective, I wonder if the WSL will reflect on the wisdom of giving Arsenal the toughest start in the league and killing our title chances so soon, given how much they rely on us to drive attendances.

The transitions between each section are incredibly smooth. It’s so good that I got completely absorbed in this arrangement and almost forgot about the original soundtrack.

We've been drinking in the seats at Arsenal Women for over a season now. The only problem was when the Corinthians fans got stuck into the ball-boy behind Letícia's goal at the Champions Cup Final. Poor lad got pelted with half-empty pint pots, and had to be escorted to safety.

Wouldn't it make sense to give the whole of the England World Cup squad a rest during this international break, and give a chance to 27 lads who had their feet up during the summer. It's not as though the games mean anything, so why not put player welfare first for a change?

I have had my first listen to Lizzy McAlpine's new album, Angel, and it is immaculate.

What a romantic draw: Arsenal going back to Highbury, against the team in red and white sleeves.

4-2 away at Ipswich in the cup: that's a good omen.

Imagine reacting to a real discussion about a real issue on the television by inventing an imaginary conversation inside your own house about what people aren't allowed to say any more.
Conversation in our house right now when someone says ‘black men’ on the TV when talking about prostate cancer. “You can’t say black men, it’s people of colour”. “You can’t say men at all, it’s ‘people with a prostate.’” 🤦‍♀️

By the end of this season, we may reach the point when Tottenham's last league title is closer in history to Bobby Buckle's final game for the club than it is to the present day.
On the 144th anniversary of the Club's formation, we start at the very beginning for the first new inductee into our re-launched Hall of Fame - Tottenham Hotspur's Founder, Bobby Buckle 🤍 🔗 thfc.pro/4hcD5iI

My main two thoughts on that Arsenal v Paris FC pre-season game are: (i) how fantastic it is to have Leah Williamson fully fit and back to her imperious best - just superb; and (ii) Melween N'Dongala looks like some player - I know we're not short at right back, but still.

Haaland's new trim gives him a touch of little Joey in 'Shane'.

You might like this for 'Everything you missed', @Jomboy_ - soccer's equivalent of the hidden ball trick. There's a long history of these goals (see football365.com/news/feature…) - but what makes this one notable is all the defenders desperately trying to warn the keeper in advance.
When was the last time we saw this in football?😂😂😂 Josh March hid behind the post as he scored for Crewe today
