We are excited to announce that our film, Rhapsody on the Outlaw Ocean, will be screening during Double Exposure Investigative Film Festival 2026– on November 8 at 11AM. The film is an animated rap documentary covering murder, slavery, vigilantism, and hope on the high seas. It consists of stories converted from The Outlaw Ocean book and subsequent investigations. The film’s lead creator and co-director, William Segal, wrote the lyrics and music, which were then performed by cast from the Broadway production, Hamilton. An international team of animators then brought the songs to life, each one rendered in a different animation style to give each chapter a unique visual identity. At the intersection of hip-hop, musical theater, animation and journalism, the overall effort is another attempt to innovate in tactics to reach a broader and diverse audience for this reporting. In its twelfth season, @DX_IFF is the only film festival in the United States dedicated exclusively to films that connect investigative journalism with visual storytelling. This year’s DX Fest theme is ON THE RECORD: EVIDENCE IN AN AGE OF DOUBT.
