US Navy SEALs from SEAL Team 7 during the Battle of Mosul in Iraq, 2017. During the brutal nine-month battle, SEAL Team 7 operators embedded with Iraqi Counter Terrorism Service units deep in the city’s western districts, advising, assisting, and accompanying them through one of the most intense urban fights of the 21st century. Facing ISIS fighters fortified by tunnels, IEDs, sniper nests, and human shields, the SEALs operated in small, mobile teams. They coordinated intelligence, precision support, and close quarters operations while building trust with their Iraqi partners. Their presence helped enable the final clearance of the Old City and the liberation of Mosul in July 2017, underscoring the quiet, high-risk work of US special operations forces alongside local partners in the fight against ISIS.

Former Delta Force operator Matt Pranka’s path through special operations is one of the rarest you’ll find. He began as a Navy SARC (Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman), serving as an elite combat medic with Marine special operations units before making the highly unusual cross-service jump to Delta while already a senior NCO. Once inside The Unit he became a combat veteran of the Global War on Terror and one of its top shooters, later earning USPSA Grandmaster status. Today, through his Xray Alpha platform, Pranka continues to set the standard in the training world with blunt, no-nonsense instruction on marksmanship and CQB.
