I came across some reports circulating online about Hushpuppi allegedly being recruited by US technology or cybersecurity groups because of his intelligence. I honestly don't know how much of what is being circulated is true, so I'm not presenting these claims as established facts. However, there's something worth discussing. Being good at fraud, financial manipulation, social engineering or exploiting weaknesses in financial systems doesn't automatically make someone a technology expert, software engineer or cybersecurity professional. Understanding how to exploit a system and understanding how to build, maintain and protect that system are two different skill sets. Even if someone has valuable intelligence about criminal networks, that doesn't automatically make them a technical expert. We should learn to separate allegations, verified facts and assumptions before accepting everything we see on social media. Not everything that trends online is true.
