Howard Webb the foul by Newcastle's Sven Botman's on Aston Villa's Nicolas Jackson was a "high-end reckless challenge".
He backed the VAR's decision not to intervene for a red card on referee's call.
NB: A reckless challenge is a yellow card.

Uefa has given Fifa and Gianni Infantino a two-week deadline to release documents relating to its governance, covering issues like FFE and the Peace Prize.
In a letter seen by BBC Sport, Uefa says "a number of fundamental questions" remain unanswered.

A few weeks ago I sat down with Brighton's sporting director.
He talked through how Brighton identify, attract and nurture young players around the world. Turning them from rough diamonds in to transfer gold.

As it stands Manchester City are guilty of all charges related to the Premier League financial rules.
But the club continue to insist they are innocent.
Do City have any grounds to win their appeal?

While Gianni Infantino has plenty of critics, his supporters are in the majority on the Fifa Council today.
Only 13 of the 36 are confirmed opponents, with 20 backing the 56-year-old.
But the 13 are a strong power base. Infantino will need to offer conciliatory changes.
No surprise Brighton won this appeal.
Far too much doubt the attacker would have got the ball for a red card on the pitch, let alone with the high bar for a VAR intervention.
Regulation & Discipline update on @BHAFC:
ALT An independent Regulatory Commission has upheld a claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Pascal Struijk and removed his one-match suspension. The Brighton & Hove Albion defender was sent off during the Premier League fixture against Sunderland on Saturday 10 October for denying an obvious goal-scoring opportunity.

Another interesting goal at the weekend with Arsene Wenger's "daylight" offside trial.
In the Canadian Premier League.
Highlights of the study:
❕ Spurs missed out on the Champions League 4 times, at a potential cost of £120m
❕ Everton missed out on Europe 5 times, at a potential cost of £66.4m
❕ Hull relegated twice in 18th, worth £99m
❕ Liverpool's total is £52.3m
I think what is being missed here on the first yellow card is that Ryan Gravenberch sweeps his left leg around after Elliot Anderson has gone past him, and deliberately trips him.
That's what makes it a caution.
As soon as Johnson was in an offside position, there was no realistic outcome other than to disallow the goal.
Mendy's block is not classed as a deliberate play in the laws.
So when Johnson challenges Giles, the Everton player does so from an active offside position. #HULEVE

Will anyone stop Infantino bring re-elected as Fifa president?
🕵️♂️ No credible candidate
✈️ Spent months flying around cementing power
🔫 Uefa still hopes to find a smoking gun
🏁 But Infantino seems home and dry
