Met my friend @chi_rox_ for lunch at:
Old Irving Brewery
4419 W. Montrose
Chicago, IL
Tried their pizza puff! Crispy puff with Italian sausage, pepperoni sauce, cheese and giardiniera ranch sauce. Great take on a Chicago classic. Delicious!
Plus, the Beef Al Pastor Crunchwrap. Another solid take on classic fast food. Their fries are excellent. FITZ-O-METER .331!
The backbone of Chicago's economy is small business. A company with 50 Salesforce enterprise users will see their taxes double in 2 years from $5k (11%) to $10k (20%). And that is just one SAAS.
Now do that for every other SAAS a small business uses, and then the rented furniture, copier, etc etc.
That's how you raise another $200 million in a year. On small businesses that can least afford it
.@ChicagosMayor is lying when he calls the PPLT a tax on "Big Tech." AWS, Salesforce, and Microsoft pass 100% of that tax straight onto local business invoices.
City Hall’s refusal to release the tax breakdown and who is paying the most isn't an oversight, it’s a cover-up because they know who really pays. #ChiBudget

Pfc. Melvin Holmes was one of six Chicagoland Marines killed on this day in 1983, when a suicide terrorist drove a truck laden w/ explosives into the building housing Battalion Landing Team 1/8 in Beirut, Lebanon. 241 Marines, Sailors, Soldiers & Airmen were killed in the attack.

As always, @StuLoren hits the nail on the head. Read his full thread and @chicagotribune piece for a sober, facts-based assessment of Chicago’s financial crisis - and how the Mayor’s proposed budget will make it worse.
As your next Mayor, I'll make sure incredibly intelligent financial voices like Stuart's are appreciated and sought after as we work to stabilize Chicago's finances.
This is a guy who madly loves Chicago and spends an inordinate amount of his time (for free) trying to get the city to succeed financially. Thank you, Stuart!

Five hundred fucking dollars fee to register with the City of Chicago to be a home based business is ACTUALLY in Mayor Johnson's 2027 budget.
Seriously, GTFO.

Replying to @HeatherCherone @wttw
Breaking News, the Johnson Administration notified WTTW they would begin testing a new gunshot detection system. Unfortunately, they didn’t notify or consult the CPD or OPSA.
Kudos to the young man, a Rickover Naval Academy student, who just dropped his bike down to push an elderly gentleman in a wheelchair across Central Ave at Berteau to catch the bus.
The kids are alright.
“He wouldn’t have broken the rule had it existed at the time”
“But since it didn’t oh well”
Why didn’t CPS have boundary standards in 2017 by the way?!

Seems like a no-brainer to us.
The mayor has ignored the neighborhoods that need this the most for long enough.

JUST IN: The man who stopped the school shooting in Bend, Oregon, has been identified as 36-year-old Kalub Giamanco.
Giamanco, a carpenter, was reportedly driving home for lunch when he heard gunshots.
After hearing the gunshots, Giamanco, who has a concealed carry permit, followed the suspect into the school.
He then shot and killed 16-year-old John J Griffin moments after the teen opened fire into a special education classroom.
Giamanco, who has two children of his own who attend the school, is family friends with one of the victims, a 7-year-old who uses a wheelchair and was shot in the face.
The 7-year-old survived and is in the hospital.
Three children at Silver Rail Elementary School were killed. Their ages are 5, 8, and 11.
According to Giamanco's brother, Giamanco doesn't feel like a hero because he feels guilty for not being able to save more children.
You are a hero, Kalub.

This is why Chairwoman @taylorfor20th and many others have called for an INDEPENDENT investigation. Student victims need to be heard (and witnesses). The Mayor's handpicked CPS OIG was told publicly by the Mayor to expedite this and he did.
Replying to @byaliceyin
Three former Resurrection Project employees said today OIG did not interview them for the reopened investigation.
“Now we can continue with the debates on the issues in our schools that voters care about,” Dominguez said in a statement.
This is absolutely heartbreaking to hear.
Young lady, nothing will ever change the fact that this was a completely avoidable tragedy.
If you find solace in anything, as you grieve, please also remember that your dad courageously stepped in to help a co-worker being terrorized by this psychopath.
His actions make him a hero in every sense.
This should have never happened, and he should still be here. But by all accounts, he is exactly the type of man our city and society need more of.
May his memory be eternal and you carry his strength with you wherever you go.
“I’m tired of things like this happening in Chicago. My dad isn’t here anymore. He’s gone, and there was so much I didn’t get to say to him.”
