I've seen about 5 other window managers all launch around the same time as trellis, and interestingly they are all nearly identical - a single horizontal strip. Why they all converge on the same thing? I'm not complaining, gives more room for Trellis to stand out.

for a product to be truly great it needs to be idiosyncratic and reflect the builder's ethos/uniqueness if it does this, you needn't worry about competition, and there's many ways to approach distribution if you feel one avenue is no longer tenable
