Basically, how many people who were classified as "no need to Rx" in the 2018 guidelines to "treat" by the 2026 guidelines ? Answer: 15.9 million more people will need lipid lower therapies under the new guidelines! Outstanding research idea - @MichaelGNanna Thanks to Dr @DanMarkMD for considering our work!
Revised Lipid-Lowering Therapy Guidelines in a Nationally Representative Sample: @AmericanHeartJ 🥸 How does the 2026 American College of Cardiology and American Heart Association dyslipidemia guideline, compared with the 2018 guideline, reclassify United States adults aged 40 to 75 years across treatment recommendation categories for lipid lowering therapy? @ACCinTouch @American_Heart @AHAScience 😱Work from our @heartwiselab by Dr Mangalesh- led by @MichaelGNanna 🥸Summary here 👇👇👇

It was a privilege to know Dr Braunwald for several decades . We collaborated on dozens of HF trials , from the planning and implementation of the NHLBI HF network, the STICH trial, and others. He was always generous with his time whether writing a letter of congratulations or offering thoughtful advice with a simple call. Despite his unmatched leadership and contributions to cardiovascular knowledge , research, and education, he often said his greatest joy was mentoring the hundreds of individuals he influenced directly and indirectly. Truly the GOAT ( greatest of all time ) in our generation. Later in life , he said Chris, you can call me Gene; I replied thank you Dr. Braunwald. Rest in peace, Dr Braunwald. We will miss you . Chris
The cardiology community mourns the loss of Dr. Eugene Braunwald, a towering figure whose work shaped modern cardiovascular medicine. From foundational discoveries in heart failure to Braunwald’s Heart Disease, his legacy will guide generations to come. A true giant in our field.

The American Heart Association mourns the passing of the legendary cardiologist Eugene Braunwald, M.D., widely recognized as one of the most influential figures in the history of cardiovascular medicine. Over seven decades, his work reshaped the understanding and treatment of heart disease, leading many to call him the father of modern cardiology. Braunwald was a lifelong contributor to the American Heart Association, helping advance its research and scientific mission, and was honored with some of the Association’s highest honors for his lasting influence on cardiovascular care and research. His influence extended well beyond his own discoveries, as generations of Association‑supported investigators, clinicians and academic leaders were trained by Braunwald or guided by the clinical trial standards and mentorship models he helped establish. newsroom.heart.org/news/amer…

Jordan Ellenberg on why he went into mathematics rather than statistics. "I tried. I tried to learn some statistics actually when I was younger and it’s a beautiful subject. But at the time I think I found the shakiness of the philosophical underpinnings were too scary for me. I felt a little nauseated all the time. Math is much more comfortable. You know where you stand. You know what’s proved and what’s not. It doesn’t have the quite same ethical and moral dimension that statistics has."

✅✅ A reminder by Dr. Rahaf Ajaj: She wasn’t on the Stanford list… but she made it to the Nobel stage. 🏅 Mary E. Brunkow, one of this year’s Nobel Prize winners in Medicine, has only 34 published papers and an H-index of 21. She never appeared in Stanford’s ranking of the world’s top 2% of scientists. She didn’t chase citations, metrics, or the spotlight. Yet, she became part of a discovery that changed how humanity understands the immune system. Today, while many are busy chasing numbers, titles, and rankings — she reminds us what truly matters in science: the question. 🔹 She wasn’t running after the lists. 🔹 She was running after the truth. Because in the end, it’s not about how many papers you publish… It’s about how deeply your idea can reshape the world. Focus on your idea, not your ranking.

"I've done it!" On 16 September 1977, Andreas Grüntzig made history: he carried out the first #angioplasty, and changed the lives of millions of patients forever. Standing on the shoulders of the giants that came before him, his vision and determination drove an entire new field of cardiology: Interventional Cardiology Listen to this description of his incredible journey by Jean Marco, who knew him and was also a pioneer in the field. Jean Marco carried out his first angioplasty in 1979 and was inspired by Gruntzig's example to launch a LIVE demonstration Course in 1982. This ultimately paved the way for the first PCR Course in 1989, founded with Jean Fajadet in Toulouse, and gave birth to PCR as we know it today. From the legs to the coronaries: How Andreas Grüntzig reached his dream 📺 🎧 pcronline.com/About-PCR/hist… (interviewed by @kiadeb87 ) More about the history of PCR here 🔗 pcronline.com/About-PCR/Who-… #interventionalcardiology #medicalhistory #interventionalcardiologist #cathlab

Truth starts with accurate words. 'Emulate' means to copy. Target trial emulation does not copy RCT design other than defining the inception cohort. It does not copy randomization, blinding, prospective data collection, specifying adjustment variables before collecting data ..
“Emulating” RCTs is disastrous language applied to an infeasible situation - how does one emulate blinding? randomization? The old observational data is dressed up as the new “emulated RCT” Marketing terminology and salesmanship is all this is imho @RWJE_BA
