Fantastic 3 days at #EMBIC2026. Grateful for the opportunity to present my paper on 1640s martyrdom and Catholic Royalism. So many wonderful papers and useful conversations.

It’s hard to overstate how absolutely awful this framing is in just a 13 second video. Football players aren’t responsible for domestic abuse, abusers are!

I am horrified that a car has been deliberately set alight outside the home of the family of Salma Yaqoob, a wonderful prominent anti-racist and peace campaigner in Birmingham. I hope the police take this shocking incident seriously. Sending my solidarity to Salma & her family.

Trump has, in recent years, been very open about why he wants to pursue regime change in Venezuela. It's about the oil, pure and simple. And any media organisation which doesn't foreground this context is simply low-information parrot squawk.
Trump: When I left, Venezuela was ready to collapse. We would have taken it over, we would have gotten all that oil.

The launch of a new party was meant to reenergize the British left. But Your Party’s founding conference showed a Left that had forgotten the outward-facing mass politics of the Corbyn-era Labour Party. jacobin.com/2025/12/your-par…

The widespread replacement of slum privately rented housing with council homes from the 1920s to the 1970s is one of the greatest achievements of the British working class. It made people’s lives healthier, more economically secure and much more dignified.
You don’t uplift the working class by making them dependant on council housing. You do it by making housing affordable and providing them with opportunities.

What an absolute disgrace. Read the West Midlands Police advice for yourself. Lisa Nandy is lying to you about why Maccabi Tel Aviv fans were banned. She's allowing the people of Birmingham to be demonised - to protect the racist football hooligans of a genocidal state.
‘You said it was about antisemitism. That was wrong, wasn’t it?’ @Lewis_Goodall challenges Lisa Nandy on the government’s opposition to banning Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from an Aston Villa match, which West Mids Police now confirm was due to hooliganism.

There was a time, once, when politicians at least tried to pretend that war was not a process of capital accumulation by other means. But here we have Nepo Baby MP Falconer proudly announcing that he’s selling off Gaza to private finance. The booty and plunder of genocide.
The rebuilding of Gaza will be one of the most challenging operations in modern times. With a ceasefire in place, we must seize this moment. That’s why this afternoon I convened partners at Wilton Park to drive forward private finance efforts for Gaza’s reconstruction.

Handsworth is one of the most deprived areas in Birmingham, hit hard by austerity and the hollowing out of local services. People have built community despite deep deprivation, yet Jenrick has the gall to call it ghettoisation. That’s racism, plain and simple

80 years ago, the US dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima - a crime against humanity that killed tens of thousands in an instant. We remember the victims and survivors, and recommit to building a world free from nuclear weapons. We also remember Gaza, where Israel has dropped over 85,000 tonnes of explosives: five times the power of the atomic bomb, on a densely populated strip of land with six times the people. More than the Blitz. More than Dresden. This is not “self-defence” or “war”. It is genocide.

Birmingham must shout out about its red brick terracotta style builds. Our heritage and culture is just as important as our growth. Plans with funding is coming together to bring back our highly popular interactive digital map of the city. Photos courtesy @Daniel_Sturley
