Big news: grad student @KassUrban_Mead has accepted a job with the @xercessociety as a Pollinator & beneficial insect Conservation Planner and NRCS partner biologist for the Mid-Atlantic region. 🐝🌳🍎🌾
Kass will be based in NJ starting in 2022, but the job will include travel through the region for extension talks and conservation plan development, so I’m sure we’ll see her again soon. 🌾🐝🚗🚗👩🌾🙋🚗🚗🐝🌻

PhD Position: Interested in bee systematics, phylogenomics, and evolution? Apply to become a doctoral student with me at Utah State University and the USDA-ARS Bee Lab. I have a funded position available as part of a new NSF grant. Please contact me for more information.
Congratulations Trevor @SlessTrevor ! Thrilled to see this in print and proud of your work and this manuscript.
I’m very excited to announce the release of our study on the phylogeny of brood parasitic cuckoo bees in the subfamily Nomadinae - my first thesis chapter, as well as my first lead author paper - now available through MPE! sciencedirect.com/science/ar… 1/5

It's official, NSF has funded our "Bees of the World" project, which seeks to investigate global bee phylogeny and evolution using phylogenomic techniques. The team includes @PhyloSolving @thecriticalbee @DanforthLab and collabs.
congratulations to Laura Figueroa & @McArtLab for this well-deserved and exciting award!

Where, oh where can the time have gone?
Our very own Silas Bossert, @thecriticalbee , will be giving his final PhD defense seminar tomorrow, Wednesday, July 1, 2020 at 1:15 PM. We hope you can join us for:
"What can ultraconserved DNA tell us about the phylogeny of bees?"

we might be biased, but Silas is an expert at entertaining, detailed, and complex presentations, and his figures pretty much always blow us out of the water. Silas has taken many of these high-res bee photos himself!
A thesis defense not to be missed.
