This has to be the weirdest election cycle for me. I’m both happy, relieved, and disappointed. I wanted a blue wave, assumed it would be mild, still I also supported one Republican for Senate in Michigan. I was only wrong about how big the wave would be, but I’m glad to know that it didn’t require Michigan. In fact, Texas, South Carolina, Kansas, and maybe even Mississippi are the breakout races that made this cycle. As a Michigan resident though, I’m very sorry for the Jewish American community in the state. The party now has an antisemite on its back (keep out of National Security committees). The good news is that I hope and believe that because of these results, Abdul is largely a non factor. The party used every muscle to get him over the line, and that necessity for the lift doesn’t go away. Abdul is still Abdul, just now a soon to be senator. If he doesn’t moderate and mature as a person, I imagine the only people who will truly enjoy his tenure will be the press. I exclude leftist from this, as they will not get goods sold to them. In the short term, one way we can see where the party goes is who gets the honors of the democratic response to the state of the union. I think the party picks Talarico, I hope they pick Colom, but whoever gets the slot, will highlight the direction of the party. Hopefully time isn’t waisted on impeachment, or anything weird. If so this historic election will be spoiled, and the pendulum will swing hard back to the right. All in all, I still plan to personally become an independent. Sadly, Michigan now has two senators who/will be looking to the executive seat at various points in the near future. All of this while the state continues its decline. In summary, it’s a great day to be a Democrat, it’s bad day to be one in Michigan.
