Hey y'all, I'd like networking reposts if you can. Georgios Skiniotis and I are pleased to announce a unique faculty position at St. Jude, and we're both particularly excited about what this search could become. It is a true joint strategic effort between the Center of Excellence for Structural Cell Biology and the Division of Neuronal Cell Biology in the Department of Developmental Neurobiology. The CoE-SCB is an intellectual community of investigators developing and applying emerging structural and cellular imaging approaches to understand biological mechanisms directly within cells and tissues. The Division of Neuronal Cell Biology and Department of Developmental Neurobiology bring a complementary culture centered on fundamental questions of neuronal development, organization, and function, with deep expertise in advanced cellular imaging. We are looking for the rare scientist who pursues important questions in neuronal cell biology wherever they lead and brings advanced structural and cellular imaging to bear. If the intersection between cryo-ET or vEM and neuronal cell biology feels like your scientific home, take a look. Application link to follow in the post belowšŸ‘‡

Researchers showed that brain cells respond differently to the H3.3 K27M mutation depending on their location in the developing brain. The findings help explain why diffuse midline glioma (DMG) develops where it does and identify potential therapeutic targets. bit.ly/4y3AHka

Hey y’all šŸ‘‹ I need a little repost magic. šŸ”„ The Solecki lab is recruiting MULTIPLE postdocs for a chromatin imaging project at St. Jude. This work sits at the intersection of live-cell imaging, neuronal cell biology, chromatin regulation, and quantitative image analysis — and the eye-popping video below shows exactly why it’s so exciting. This may be for you if you are: • A neurobiologist who wants to become DANGEROUS in cell biology 🧠 • A chromatin biologist who wants to ditch endpoint molecular biology and actually watch nuclear states unfold in living cells 🧬 • An imaging scientist or biophysicist who wants to get messy in real cells, not idealized samples šŸ”¬ A quantitative mindset is required. Prior experience in every area is not. If you ever imagined touring the nucleus like nuclear render and our Pol II biosensor below… reach out because WE can do it. Tag a scientist who needs to see this + RT to help us find them! šŸš€ Let’s make chromatin biology history.

Most of what we ā€œseeā€ in 3D #microscopy is wrong. But a new preprint from the lab driven by Anna Pittman comes to the rescue. Hard truth: humans are bad at seeing 3D on screens. We collapse volumes, look at image slices and pretend it’s enough. But, a model can interrogate the full 3D structure. Rather than work with black box , Anna rebuilt a classic (bag-of-visual-words) for 3D: with decisions you can actually understand. A huge win for interpretability and we use that power to dissect neuronal chromatin organization šŸš€ She’s on the data scientist job market! Don’t miss her! Let's get some reposts to get her some exposure.

1/ Better late than never, here’s a long thread of threads summarizing our MOSAIC preprint. If you’re curious about the process by which a new microscope is conceived and brought into the world, this is the thread for you. If you’ve come for eye candy, there’s plenty of that too below. biorxiv.org/content/10.1101/…

Why is it always "vibe coded this game with Claude in an hour" and not "vibe coded this re-write of SIM reconstruction in an hour so an entire field isn't dependent on CUDA code from 10 years ago".

Beyond excited to share my big @StJude news! We’re going to build an amazing hub for imaging technology development and deployment - driven by St Jude’s mission to transform the way the world understands and treats pediatric catastrophic diseases. Imaging innovators come join us!
St. Jude welcomes @HillmanLab as the founding chair of the new Department of Imaging Sciences. Her team will develop innovative tools to accelerate discovery and improve patient care. ow.ly/GZQG50UL653
