Voters cannot verify how their specific vote was counted. There is no routine public ability to independently inspect every ballot, every machine record, and every voter-to-ballot match in real time. Signature matching, statistical audits, and retention rules exist, but they do not give individuals or the public the direct verification. That is the factual condition. When the process cannot be checked end-to-end by the people casting the ballots or by independent observers with full access, claims that the results are simply “the official count” rest on trust in the administrators and the limited audits rather than on open, reproducible verification.
