Why do the old pics always look better?
✨Looking northwest from Casa Loma at 1 Austin Terrace towards Walmer Rd in the aptly named Casa Loma neighbourhood of #Toronto. ✨The archive photo was taken from one of the towers at the majestic castle. It shows an aerial view of the stables, potting shed and former greenhouses. A portion of Pellatt Lodge, built in 1905/06, is also visible in the foreground on the left. Sir Henry Pellatt and his wife Mary lived at the lodge while Casa Loma was being constructed. 👉More Casa Loma history at torontojourney416.com/casa-l… #castle #casaloma #torontohistory

Let’s see it
✨The Black Bull Tavern is located at the northeast corner of Queen St W and Soho St in #Toronto’s Entertainment District. ✨The Black Bull dates back to 1833 when Toronto was known as the Town of York. Initially, it was a simple two-storey wooden structure with a tavern on the ground floor and an inn on the upper floor. ✨In 1886, the Black Bull was rebuilt into the present-day, three-storey red brick building with a mansard roof. In the early 20th century, the hotel became known as the Hewitt House, then the Saranac Hotel. In 1911, it was renamed the Hotel Clifton until the mid-1960s when it became the Clifton House. ✨In 1975, the property was purchased by Bobby “Monk” Taylor (1939-2023), and soon after, the tavern reverted to its original name, the Black Bull. 👉More Black Bull Tavern history at torontojourney416.com/black-… #torontohistory #torontopast #torontobar
