New York, Grand Central Terminal, 1930s. On clear mornings, sunlight poured through its 60-foot windows in beams so sharp they looked solid. In the 1970s it was nearly torn down like Penn Station, until Jacqueline Kennedy helped lead the fight to save it, and in 1978 the Supreme Court upheld its protection as a landmark.

#PPOD: The Ghostly Cat's Head Nebula 👻 A ghostly feline shape emerges from the clouds of the Carina Nebula in these remarkable views from the @HubbleTelescope and @NASAWebb. Located approximately 7,500 light-years from Earth, this region of gas and dust resembles a cat sitting with its back toward us, its head turned to reveal a glowing eye. Intense ultraviolet radiation and powerful winds from nearby massive stars likely sculpted its unusual shape. Hubble's visible-light observations reveal a dark pillar of dust silhouetted against glowing gas, while JWST's infrared instruments peer deeper into the cloud, uncovering young stars and intricate structures hidden from view. The cat's glowing eye may mark a young star still embedded in dust, while a faint jet-like feature hints at another nearby star in formation. Together, the images reveal how stellar radiation simultaneously sculpts, erodes, and illuminates the clouds where new stars are born. Credit: @NASA, @ESA, @csa_asc, @STScI #astronomy

Exoplanet... From the edge of space, Mount Fuji appears almost mythical. Floating above a soft ocean of clouds, Japan’s iconic volcano rises in perfect, snow-capped solitude beneath the gentle curve of the Earth. City lights sparkle far below like scattered embers, while the planet itself seems to cradle the mountain in its arc — a breathtaking reminder of how small and spectacular our world can look from above. 🤠

Chicago, 1948. Preston Tucker's sedan had a third headlight in the middle that turned with the steering wheel, an engine in the back and a padded dashboard for safety. Only 51 were ever built before the company collapsed. Today a single one sells for well over a million dollars.

REO Speedwagon in their classic lineup: Kevin Cronin, Gary Richrath, Bruce Hall, Neal Doughty and Alan Gratzer. One of them is repping KMET 94.7, the legendary Los Angeles rock station. Formed in Champaign, Illinois in 1967 and named after a vintage truck, REO were famous for relentless touring long before the big hits came. Cronin returned to the band in 1976 and Hall joined on bass in 1977, completing the lineup that broke through. Hi Infidelity arrived in late 1980 and spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, powered by "Keep On Loving You" and Richrath's "Take It on the Run." Gary Richrath died in 2015 and is remembered as one of the great Midwest rock guitarists. 🎸 Hi Infidelity spent 15 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. Which REO song still gets you singing along? 🎸

Two Galaxies Are Locked in a Gravitational Embrace 300 Million Light-Years Away Hubble has caught one of the most dramatic slow-motion collisions in the universe. In the constellation Leo, two galaxies known together as Arp 87 are locked in a gravitational dance that has already stretched across more than 75,000 light-years. The lower galaxy, NGC 3808, is a graceful face-on spiral. Its immense gravity has reached out and begun tearing streams of gas, dust, and stars from its companion. Above it, NGC 3808A appears edge-on, partially wrapped in a glowing ribbon of material stolen from its neighbor. That cosmic bridge is not empty space—it’s a river of raw material. As gas is pulled from one galaxy into the other, it collapses and ignites, triggering a furious burst of new star formation in both systems. This is not a gentle encounter. Over the next few billion years the two galaxies will continue to spiral inward, their stars and gas increasingly mixed, until they finally merge into a single, larger galaxy. What we see today is the middle chapter of that long cosmic story—two islands of stars still distinct, yet already connected by a bridge of light and matter. The Allman Brothers Band released their debut album, The Allman Brothers Band, 57 years ago today, on November 4, 1969. Duane Allman, Gregg Allman, Dickey Betts, Berry Oakley, Butch Trucks and Jai Johanny "Jaimoe" Johanson had only been together for five months. They recorded the album in August 1969 at Atlantic Studios in New York, cutting the whole thing in six days with engineer Adrian Barber. It opened with the instrumental "Don't Want You No More" and gave us "It's Not My Cross to Bear," "Black Hearted Woman," Muddy Waters' "Trouble No More," "Dreams" and "Whipping Post." It came out on Atco with a small "Capricorn Records Series" line on the label and only reached No. 188 on the Billboard chart. "Dreams" and "Whipping Post" went on to become two of the band's signature epics on stage. 🎸 Gregg wrote "Whipping Post" late at night with a burnt kitchen match on an ironing board. What's your favorite track? 🎸

"I love Ed Norton and what he did for my career. But the truth is that we couldn't have been more different. Norton was the total extrovert, there was no way you could put down his infectious good humor. Me? I'm a loner and a worrier." Celebrating Art Carney born Nov 4, in 1918. Over 95 credits including The Late Show, House Calls, Harry & Tonto, The Muppets Take Manhattan - & of course TV's loveable Ed Norton! #botd

This is not Saturn! 🪐 All four giant planets in our solar system have rings (though only Saturn’s are large and bright enough to be seen from Earth, even with a basic telescope). ❕In this case, we are looking at Uranus. This image was captured in 2002 by the Very Large Telescope (VLT) using the ISAAC instrument, in the infrared range.

John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison with George's first car, a blue Ford Anglia, registration 935 MPF, on a golf course driveway in south Liverpool in 1962. Captured by Paul's younger brother, Mike McCartney. George bought the car from Terry Doran, a salesman at Hawthorne Motors in Warrington and a friend of Brian Epstein. In exchange for good terms, George agreed to pose with John and Paul for a dealership ad, which ran in the local paper Mersey Beat in July 1962. The Beatles were still a club band then, splitting their time between the Cavern and Hamburg. That August, Ringo Starr replaced Pete Best on drums, and in October "Love Me Do" came out. Doran stayed in the Beatles' circle for years and later worked for Apple. John died in 1980 and George in 2001. 🎸 Within months the Beatles released "Love Me Do." Which early Beatles song is your favorite? 🎸
