Big news! Our Global Ensembles Paper is out. We developed ensembles of multiple models at an unprecedented global scale for five ES of high policy relevance. doi.org/10.1126/sciadv.adf54… @JMBecologist @UK_CEH @BritishEcolSoc @Simon_Willcock

Exciting new research from European collaboration @FUNgreen2017 explores livestock's role in restoring pollination services. Learn how green infrastructure and grassland type impact plant-pollinator interactions. Read more at @JAppliedEcolog : doi.org/10.1111/1365-2664.14… #Restoration

ALT The queen bee of the bumblebee Bombus pascuorum pollinates a plant of the genus Trifolium in Caithness, northern Scotland. These bumblebees have played a prominent role as the main pollinators in the three countries under study. Photo: Nick Owens

ALT Caption 1. One of the research sites exhibits an ancient meadow in the village of Nyckleby in south-eastern Sweden. The meadow has been managed over the centuries by grazing. This environment is surrounded by other tracts of green infrastructure such as meadows, grassy road verges and forest margins, forming a remarkably connected landscape. Photo: Sara Cousins

Restoration programs should aim to increase landscape connectivity, which influences plant communities, pollinator assemblages & their interactions

All models are wrong, some are useful, but using multiple models can increase accuracy and assess uncertainty
Worried to see policy makers using a single model, often because that’s the one promoted to them by a particular academic team

New paper!
Here we use model ensembles to get more robust estimates of 5 ecosystem services
We apply these globally & show they are equally accurate in less vs well researched regions
We make these estimates available for anyone, anywhere in the world science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…

Evidence shows that #ensembles of #ecosystemservice #models are more accurate than using a single #model chosen at random (e.g. #InVEST, #ARIES etc). But it takes A LOT of resources to work across multiple platforms - creating an information bias toward those with these resources

While most focus on Ecosystem Servicedelivery from habitat patches, we show the network formed by Green Infrastructure could enhance ES across the landscape
While most services are lower in the GI, this could be overcome by management @Fungreen2017 sciencedirect.com/science/ar…
Enhancing dispersal and improving Green Infrastructure habitat provide future Ecosystem Service credits.

Ecosystem services are so important, but different models make different predictions
We show how creating model ensembles increases accuracy and argue we should all try to use multiple models
Do you use #ecosystemservice #models? If so our new paper shows that using multiple models together in an 'ensemble' provides up to greater accuracy - especially if you use a weighted ensemble. authors.elsevier.com/a/1eHuT… This video explains all:
