My papers, articles and posts on #Orwell darcymoore.net/tag/orwell
A portrait of one #Orwell's ancestors by Sir Joshua Reynolds was auctioned this week. The catalogue lacked biographical details, so I thought it wd be interesting to summarise what I have learnt about Charles Blair. BTW If I was wealthy, this painting would have been snaffled for research purposes. ;) darcymoore.net/2026/10/25/so…

"Dramatic new evidence concludes that the play Edward III should be added to William #Shakespeare’s canon, and also that it was a major collaboration with his contemporary rival Christopher #Marlowe.
The history was published anonymously in 1596, and it has long been thought that Shakespeare wrote at least a few scenes. However, Dr Rory Loughnane, a leading scholar and co-author of the research, told the Guardian that computerised textual analysis pushed the case “beyond any reasonable doubt” that the Stratford-born playwright was the principal writer." theguardian.com/culture/2026…
Updated my post with more primary sources after receiving kind assistance from The Battle of Worcester Society. It is interesting that one of Andrew Blair's daughters had the same name as #Orwell's sister, Marjory! darcymoore.net/2026/10/10/ki…

'In June 1928, Orwell — then still known as Eric Arthur Blair — moved from London to Paris, with the aim of learning French, living cheaply, and writing novels. That didn’t quite work out: although he had some success writing shorter-length journalism...'

I've written a book. I can only imagine your surprise. It's published next spring. The cover is rather lovely though, and I can say that with honesty because I had nothing to do with it. #Dawn
It outrages me that Robert Kaplow did not win Best Original Screenplay for Blue Moon. Ethan Hawke should have have been awarded a gong too. I do appreciate the irony though, considering the art v commercial success binary the film explores, of the failure to recognise something special. Blue Moon is possibly my favourite film 🎞️ of the 21st century! youtu.be/qo7gRHip0lI?si=QF2D…
