Preserve capital first. Generate durable income second. Compound wealth over time. That discipline has guided my work for decades. I’ve launched a new publication outlining the framework behind it: The Discipline Behind Durable Wealth: davidaltonclark.substack.com…

The Federal Reserve held interest rates steady today, and we think patience is the right approach. Inflation remains high, but the question isn't simply whether rates should go higher. It's whether higher rates would actually address the inflation that remains. The challenge is that parts of the economy, and of inflation itself, are moving at very different speeds. Growth remains remarkably resilient in aggregate, supported by a powerful investment cycle, but beneath the surface, parts of the economy that are more sensitive to borrowing costs are feeling considerably more restraint. We see a similar divergence in inflation. Many of the cyclical components that respond to higher interest rates appear relatively well controlled. Meanwhile, persistent pressures across energy, insurance, healthcare and education are unlikely to be meaningfully affected by another 25-basis-point rate increase. In some ways, the Fed is operating a house with one thermostat, but very different temperatures in every room. Turning it down further may make the rooms that are already cool even colder, without doing much to cool those that remain hot. That doesn't mean the Fed should become complacent. Inflation is still above its 2% objective and the Fed should retain the option to tighten further if the underlying inflation trend deteriorates. But hawkish rhetoric and patient policy can comfortably coexist, particularly when the bond market has already done some tightening of its own through higher Treasury yields. For investors, we think this environment argues for humility rather than making a heroic directional call on rates. Real yields remain attractive, and there's considerable income available across high-quality fixed income markets. We continue to favor a moderate duration posture, taking advantage of today's income opportunities while remaining patient as this unusually divergent economy evolves. The Fed doesn't need to ignore the heat. It just needs to be thoughtful about where it's coming from.

SAP CEO interview link in case you missed it. cnb.cx/4sj0e7e
Super Thursday of earnings in Europe! I spoke to 7 CEO’s as numbers broke - @SAP @Barclays @Roche @nokia @galderma @yara @Kuehne_Nagel Takeaways - SAP demand story is strong as companies lean into AI transformation but @ChrstnKlein is frustrated by Europe’s regulate first approach. Europe’s AI winner Nokia has a triple digit increase in AI customers in Q3, @justinhotard says IP and optical used in AI data centres will grow even faster next year. Barclays - AI means 5000 job losses. Tech issuance is one of the forces Venkat is watching along with debt to gdp and underlying inflation. Roche accuses Germany of creating government jobs but doing nothing to support industries like pharma. Yara was reluctant to say the world is facing a food crisis as diesel, fertiliser and weather wreck havoc but is worried about the food supply chain. Aesthetics like biostimulatory injectable Sculptra are being used to counter GLP1 face sagging and continue to plump up earnings for Galderma. Kuehne + Nagel - no inventory gaps/bare shelves over the holiday season 🌲 because of shipping disruptions.

🎉 Exciting news: The first on-premise quantum computing deployment at the NVIDIA Accelerated Quantum Research Center (NVAQC) will be an @IonQ_Inc Superion 256 system, connected to NVIDIA GB200 NVL72 via NVQLink with workloads orchestrated by NVIDIA CUDA-Q. "As the first quantum processor to sit alongside the NVAQC’s GB200 NVL72 system, IonQ’s Superion 256 will help make breakthroughs allowing the global ecosystem to integrate QPUs with AI infrastructure, build using open models and open-source software, and advance toward scientifically useful quantum supercomputers.” - Timothy Costa Learn more ⤵️
