During the fade of civilization, five families from across the social spectrum come together through love, pain, and their shared gifts. In a mistopian world of biomedical miracles and metafictional narratives, their succeeding generations will face fiscal crises, catastrophic war, demographic collapse, human immortality, and the rise of an inscrutable, anomalous threat. Can they survive nine books and hundreds of years of subjective history to reach the unlimited future? #TheOppositeSides

Flood the field.
This whole "not enforcing NFA" thing is 1,000% a trip Written as an attorney with experience in such things. If a Dem is elected they'll gather up all the 4473s and throw you right into dungeons. Remember what they did to the Jan. 6 folks? That's YOU, but 20x harder.

Spiritual and dogmatic considerations aside, Jesus demonstrated that God understands human suffering.
going thru diaries from when i was struggling with my Christian faith. It seems even from a very young age, I was confused that Jesus's sacrifice was supposed to be such a big deal. I find multiple entries across the years with variations on "Obviously any of us would do that for someone we loved, it kinda seems like Jesus just hitting the bare minimum"

I love humans, but most aren’t particularly bright.
Humans dislike inequality even when a rising tide lifts all boats. One reason is that, while wealth can grow through expanding prosperity rather than by taking from others, status is zero sum. If one person moves up in rank, everyone below moves down by definition. And, as psychological research shows, humans are highly sensitive to status. From @AdamOmaryPhD: humanprogress.org/why-humans…

It’s been a crazy year. I went into it thinking I’d be out of business by May, but I feel busier than ever now. I’ve gained at least one new client almost every week in the last few months. My bank account is the fattest it’s been since I quit Big Library several years ago, but gross profits are still shrinking. Volume is up, I guess. The volume of my writing, however, is not. My novel sits on the back burner once again for this and other reasons. On the other hand, my notes for the follow-on series are approaching 400 pages. So … finish the drafts next year. Edit and revise in 2028. Publish in 2029.

Since @XMoney gave me a gift today, I read the terms of service. Perfectly legal transactions are prohibited, just like every other worthless third-party payment system out there. 😑
I don’t trust anyone with money transfers, at least not completely. All providers have had issues, including the ones I do trust the most. If @XMoney can provide a reliable service without bullshit restrictions, I’ll use it. So many would-be customers want to use electronic payment providers (PayPal, Venmo, etc.). I continue to refuse in protest over these policies, and I’ll bet X will default to the same restrictive terms of use.

In honor of today’s victory for American wrongthink, I may as well cap things off with a little more automation and a scandalous amount of exposed hip. In the post-crisis world of #TheOppositeSides, the Mathias family doesn’t worry much about legalities anyway.

It helps to already be financially successful and to have several years of capital on hand. I started my own business 10+ years ago, but I’ve been truly profitable for maybe two of these years. After leaving the wage trade, it mostly slows the bleed to a manageable trickle.
I've known a few people who opened small joints. Amazing food, amazing people, but my God, terrible at business and folded like a house of cards. It's super common and is why some of the most successful places tend to separate the roles properly

🚨🇺🇸 A random bystander took down the Oregon school shooter in under three minutes... in a district that BANS guns on campus Three minutes. That's how long it took police to reach Silver Rail Elementary in Bend after a teenager with a long gun walked in, and by the time they got there he was already dead on the floor, killed by a civilian nobody has named yet. He'd already murdered a 5-year-old, an 8-year-old, an 11-year-old and their teacher. A 7-year-old and a 54-year-old teacher are fighting for their lives tonight. Here's the part the lawyers are going to fight over. Bend's school district banned every firearm on its property in 2022, permit holders included, and state law says a gun on campus has to be unloaded and locked in a car. Police won't say where the bystander was standing or whether he was supposed to have a gun at all. So the system said no guns, the killer brought one anyway, and the only thing that stopped him was someone who may have also broken the rule. Whatever the circumstances, the person is a HERO. What a time to be alive. I had a whole article on automation and the creative arts ready to publish, but it’s already obsolete. What I predicted for the near future is starting to happen now. Slop will always be slop, but art will always be art. Always has been. Always will be. Creatives, please stop dooming and take this wonderful tool the computer nerds have given us. Take it and make great art.
I said it, didn't I? I predicted this exact thing, and I explained why. I said that AI art is slop not because the art is bad, but because it lacks a detailed mental model of the audience and what they want. And I said that AI art would cease to slop the moment it was controllable enough to faithfully implement a human's artistic vision. Well, here we are. This is AI as the paintbrush, not the artist. This is the future of stories. Power. Precision. Insight. The hybrid of machine and man. Some people say we're going to democratize Hollywood. But they are wrong. We are going to liberate it. Because democracy is when you need the permission of a million suburban soccer moms to build a power plant. Liberty is when you can just do things.

➡️ATF has published an Open Letter and FAQ on NFA transfers of short-barreled rifles, short-barreled shotguns, suppressors (silencers), and “any other weapons.” ➡️Still required: 4473s, NICS checks, compliance with state/local laws, and Form 20s for interstate transport of SBRs/SBSs. In my earliest notes for what has become #TheOppositeSides, I predicted President Orange would be succeeded by a Hispanic nominee, but I was wrong on the timing. 🤔😬
He should probably be the nominee. I think he wipes the floor with all the major Dem contenders. Vance is a much more risky proposition. If it were up to me, it'd be Rubio, with Vance either continuing as VP or taking a major cabinet role. Regardless, electability should be the main consideration for the primary.

More photo-conversion tests. The model is FireRed, which is almost certainly Chinese spyware, but I use an anonymizer. Posting about it may defeat that intention. 😅
