Members of the HCSO Maritime Tactical Operations Section are in San Diego this week for the Maritime Security West Conference.
Our team is connecting with federal, state, and local partners across the maritime security community and reviewing the latest equipment and tactics to strengthen security along the Houston Ship Channel and Port of Houston.
Protecting one of the nation’s most critical ports is a shared mission. We are proud to represent Harris County and bring these partnerships and lessons home.

Today we broke ground on something that will strengthen public safety across our region for years to come.
The new @HCSOTexas Regional Swift Water Training Facility will give our first responders a dedicated place to train for the dangerous and unpredictable conditions they may face during floods, severe weather, and water rescues.
For years, our personnel have had to travel elsewhere for this specialized training. Bringing this capability home means more opportunities to train, stronger regional partnerships, and better preparation when every second counts.
This is more than a new facility—it’s an investment in readiness, our first responders, and the safety of the communities we serve.
Proud to see this important project officially underway! 🚧🌊

HCSO Dive Team – Raising the Bar
Members of the HCSO Dive Team are currently attending the ERDI Underwater Threat Assessment & Ship Hull Inspection course in Key West, Florida.
They are adding critical new skills—including Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO) procedures, specialized ship hull inspections, and sea chest searches—to an already highly trained team.
These capabilities will further strengthen our ability to secure Port Houston and protect our waterways.
Always training. Always ready.
Proud of these professionals who never stop improving.

While on duty, I had the absolute pleasure of running into this incredible young man, DJ Daniel. DJ is a true inspiration — a warrior who continues to beat the odds every single day.
His courage and spirit are unmatched, which is why he’s been sworn in as an Honorary Police Officer by multiple Federal, State, and Local agencies.
Always a joy to see DJ and his father, Theodis. Keep shining, young man — you make us all proud!
