Superstar! Dr Wung Ki Hong would be proud!
Some honors🏅mean more than words can express. 💙
I was deeply honored to deliver the Waun Ki Hong Memorial Lecture at the Severance Alumni Association Annual Meeting.
Dr. Waun Ki Hong was a true pioneer in oncology and physician-scientist leadership. Someone I have admired for many years and whose footsteps I have aspired to follow.
This was particularly meaningful because Dr. Dong M. Shin, another remarkable pioneer and my mentor, delivered this lecture last year.
Standing there and reflecting on their extraordinary contributions to cancer medicine was both humbling and deeply emotional.
I am reminded that our journeys are shaped by those who came before us. Their mentorship, vision and courage give the next generation the confidence to pursue what once seemed impossible.
This experience reminded me to dream bigger, aim higher and remain committed to making a meaningful difference for our patients.
Deeply grateful to the Severance alumni community, my mentors and everyone who has been part of this journey.
The best way to honor those who paved the way is to keep moving forward. 💜

Wow! Just wow!
Stanford was losing to Georgia Tech 20-10 on Saturday night.
Then their quarterback threw for 396 yards and three touchdowns, all career highs, and Stanford scored 24 unanswered points and won the game 34-27.
He went 3 for 3 throwing on fourth down. He hit a freshman named Zion Robinson for 61 yards, the longest throw of his life. He found Caden High for 49 and a score to tie it, then Nico Brown for 33 more on another fourth down.
His name is Davis Warren. He is 24 years old and in his sixth year of college football.
The cancer is the part people know about. It is not the only reason it took six years.
In March of 2019, Warren was a junior in high school when doctors told him he had acute myeloid leukemia.
He spent five months in treatment. Four separate rounds of chemotherapy, inpatient, the kind where you live at the hospital. He lost thirty pounds off a body that was supposed to be growing into a quarterback.
That August they told him he was cancer free.
He still wanted to play football. Nobody offered him a scholarship, so he walked on at Michigan.
He sat for years. A walk on at one of the biggest programs in the country is a practice body until proven otherwise, and he stayed anyway.
In 2024, five years after the chemotherapy, Davis Warren was the starting quarterback of the Michigan Wolverines. He started nine games and threw for 1,199 yards.
Then on December 31, 2024, in the ReliaQuest Bowl, he tore the ACL in his right knee.
That is the part that usually ends it. A walk on in his fifth year, coming off a torn knee, at a program with other quarterbacks waiting.
The knee cost him most of last season. He put his name in the transfer portal.
"I think going into the portal, you never really know what to expect. But I think it's been everything I could ask for and then some."
The Stanford Cardinal took him. Which is how a 24 year old ended up on a field in California on Saturday night, down ten points, throwing for more yards than he ever has.
His head coach Tavita Pritchard afterward.
"He is operating this offense at a high level. He's protecting the football. And he's such a leader in that locker room."
His teammate Caden High said it plainer.
"The proof is in the pudding. He's been doing what he's been doing every week. He's consistent."
Now the honest part. Stanford is 2-2 and Miami and Duke both beat them badly earlier this month. This is not a team having a magic season.
But there is a 24 year old out there every Saturday who had cancer at seventeen, walked on with nothing promised, made himself a Big Ten starting quarterback, blew out his knee in a bowl game, and went and found somewhere else to keep playing.
