From Team Soul: “We’ve been asked by some of David’s fans why we post his ‘politics’ to this feed. For the record, these posts represent David’s values and convictions, the core of his beliefs, and they are presented here in his own words. Neither he nor we will reduce them to just ‘politics’—nor him to just an actor. We’ve also been asked to keep his memory alive, something we will do, not because fans have asked us to, but because David asked us to. It’s a promise we made him that we will forever keep.”
(From 2020) “Trump is concerned only with himself. Little by little, he’s moving toward an authoritarian society—and away from the promise and possibility of our great nation. He’s a runaway train that needs to be stopped and the only way to stop this? ... We do it together!”
On the eve of the 25-year anniversary of 9/11, we have republished the essay David wrote on September 20, 2001, less than two weeks after the tragic events that traumatized our country and the world. It’s rather sad how prophetic his words turned out to be (link at the bottom):
Excerpt: “The diabolical nature of these criminal acts and the horrendous loss of life cannot be underestimated; their deaths demand retribution and justice in the name of humanity. But whatever form that retribution takes, it cannot be done to get even...
...and it cannot be limited to justice only for America. If we want to be the champion of freedom in the world, then ... whatever decisions are made in the near future must be acted on in the interests of the global community.”

We not only remember David’s birthday today, but that he was in attendance at the March on Washington in 1963 to hear Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, & that Emmett Till was also born on this day in 1941. David never forgot those things, and so we remember them, too.
1/2 “As we approach the upcoming voting season ... particularly as we deal with Trump’s battle against mail-in voting, consider this: He wants to defund the post office, right? If that happens, it would alienate many, many voters, and make his reelection more imminent...
1/2 “Even as I saw myself as a storyteller, I realized that I am, in fact, a part of that story—involved in the lives of fellow citizens, past and present—in their ongoing struggles for racial justice and equality, values that I have enjoyed, but which have eluded so many...
“If our hard-fought-for freedoms are worth anything, it has to be about protecting the RIGHTS OF OTHERS, whether we agree with them or not. That’s what our Constitution and the Declaration of Independence was built on.
But there are those who are so narrow-minded that think...
“Starsky & Hutch was one small thing 45 years ago, but the idea of ME & THEE, born out of that relationship, is something still with us today. That’s really what America, in her sacred documents—the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution—claim to be about ... for ALL.”
