THANK YOU KELOWNA! I am so grateful for the support you gave me today. Please know that I do not take this lightly, and I will do everything in my power to serve our community well, while sticking to the policy promises I’ve made throughout the course of the campaign.

Baking in perimeter blocks as the new setbacks in our zoning frameworks seems to be a much better path than small setbacks around the building that nobody uses. Private park > dead space.
Victoria, BC is reducing minimum front setbacks in order to support future perimeter blocks, as parcels on a block are redeveloped. morehousing.ca/victoria-ocp

Here’s hoping the BC Conservative Majority will continue the work needed to allow missing middle builders access to the global elevator market.
"Affordable Elevators" you say? Break free of the US-Centric elevator cartel? Transform how we do "missing middle"? Change our approach to urban planning in North America? Here's v1 of my elevator policy roadmap for BC / Vancouver.

Voting matters. 18 of 93 ridings in British Columbia's election were decided by less than 1,000 votes.

On municipal infrastructure, I look forward to working with the Province on: Bonded utility financing as a DCC replacement Re-legalizing split-rate property tax Along with direct funding requests for overdue items like the new transit yard and Highway 97 intersection fixes.

I hope that we will see progress made on reducing homelessness, reducing overdoses, and ensuring that residents feel safe in our communities. Figuring out how to reduce deficit to GDP while building these, and schools, and hospitals, is an incredible challenge.

Finally, I want to see ranked ballots municipally and some form of STV+ or pro-rep Provincially. Enough of the vote splitting nonsense.

How rare is an interim leader winning an election? I could only find one precedent. Not just in Canada - in all Westminster countries at the national or provincial/state levels. Searched UK, Australia, NZ. Just found one. British Columbia in 1952

castanet.net/news/Kelowna/63… Very disappointing to see record low turnout. Regardless of the election outcome, nobody should want that. I look forward to working with my local MLA’s on Kelowna priorities, and seeing the final results in Kelowna Centre

To be fair, Vancouver is extremely different than BC as a whole.

You can’t ask people to vote strategically if you are campaigning on opposing electoral reform.

kelowna.ca/city-hall/city-go… Extremely interesting poll-by-poll results here. Candidates winning polling stations while coming 18th overall. Some winners doing extremely poorly in Rutland. Large differences between early voting & election day.

Vancouver voting for these questions overwhelmingly while electing a Green & Socialist council says a lot about where urban / core suburban voters are on the public safety file, and on the economics file. Huge lessons to take away from this.
BREAKING... City of Vancouver voters overwhelmingly voted "YES" in both public safety plebiscite questions. 68.6% for enhancing enforcement against public use of hard drugs. 68% on creating a secure medical treatment facility. #bcpoli #vanpoli #vanre dailyhive.com/vancouver/vanc…

Simultaneously true that: People are feeling a greater economic pinch than ever and moving towards radical options that they think will help make their lives affordable. & are very tired of open drug use / disorder, and will vote for ways they think will make things better.

I think it’s worrying that the (relative) technocrats pretty convincingly lost the argument in Vancouver (OneCity) on things like upzoning, let alone cutting the cost to build. People are not looking for housing specifics as much as they are looking for… movement politics?

Statistically significant surveys and elections - the best forms of community engagement. Outcomes are what truly matters at the end of the day. What have you delivered for people, not what words you’ve used or hours in meetings along the way.

Thank you, Kelowna. Last night, you gave me the honour of serving as your mayor for another four years. I don’t take that lightly, and I won’t take it for granted. There’s more work to do, and I’m ready to get to it.
