OUR MGMT AGREED TO RECOGNIZE OUR UNION TODAY! We’re now the third recognized coffee shop union in MA. #MACoffeeUnion
Huge thanks to all who supported us this week. We felt so much community love ❤️
Honored to share this milestone day with the brave @SBWorkersUnited :)
In other coffee union news: voluntary recognition has been reached for @DBFUnited! ☕️✊
Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout the week! The solidarity we received from the Somerville community and beyond has made such an impact here. #MACoffeeUnion

NEW: Three Somerville coffee shops — Diesel Café, Bloc Café, and Forge Baking Company (@DbfUnited) — have ratified a union contract.
They're the 2nd ☕️☕️ chain in Boston and among the first nationwide to reach an agreement after organizing. tinyurl.com/mshk77uz

JUST IN: Washington D.C. passes a huge raise for restaurant workers and other tipped employees.
Voters backed Initiative 82, outlawing a sub-minimum wage for tipped workers — instead, they'll receive the full minimum wage plus tips on top.
It’s our first Labor Day as an organized workplace! We are so grateful for our community of DBF workers and for the labor movement across America. Tip your barista (or any skilled worker you know!) a little extra today ;)

By my count, there are now at least 21 unionized cafés in the Greater Boston area:
6 SBux locales with @BostonSBWU
8 cafés w/ @UnitedPavement
4 w/ @DarwinsUnited
3 w/ @DbfUnited)
And at least 9 more that are unionizing (7 w/ @SBWorkersUnited & 2 w/ @1369UNITED).
All in < 1 yr!

We received word from ownership just under an hour ago that they will not be voluntarily recognizing our union. While we are disappointed by this decision, we are not discouraged, and look forward to affirming our union in an NLRB-facilitated election. #UnionStrong!

If we don't see ya in Chelsea/East Boston for #MayDay, best see ya in Cambridge with the coffee workers! ☕️💪 Workers at 27 (!) MA shops are now unionizing, by our count: 15 (!) with @SBWorkersUnited, 11 (!) independent cafes with @nejbUNITEHERE, and @CityFeedUnite with @iww🔥🔥

BREAKING: We just won our election! We had our vote count today at 1 PM, and the final tally was 17-3. We are so thankful for your support - we could not have done this without you! #BetterCoffeeTree

Yesterday, one of our workers tested positive. Instead of following CDC guidelines, management urged us to reopen the store as soon as possible. Management continues to prioritize their profits over worker safety and it’s unacceptable.

Our fellow ALU member was fired in retaliation for being involved in union activity! Please support us by supporting him 🙏🏾

We salute workers everywhere who are standing up to the unsafe (and unjust) conditions created by the COVID pandemic. Do better, Starbucks. Listen to your employees––the ones who are at a greater risk because they're exposed to the public day after day.

So glad to spend time with Congresswoman @AyannaPressley and workers from @DbfUnited yesterday. There is so much more we must do for workers in our community and to solve our greatest issues, but I'm glad that my neighbors and sister-in-service will be partners in that work.

“Forming the union and being recognized was just the start of it, and the big fights happen when you’re negotiating the contract.”
