Thinking of Helen Haines and her family, friends and community tonight. A wonderful and thoughtful person, much-admired and much-loved.

Statement of the Green Party of Ukraine
The Green Party of Ukraine (GPU) expresses its deep disappointment with recent statements by newly elected Australian Greens leader Senator David Shoebridge regarding the refusal to provide military assistance to Ukraine.
We sincerely thank the Australian Greens for supporting humanitarian missions and calling for a complete embargo on Russian oil. At the same time, we emphasise that refusing to provide defensive weapons to a country waging a just war of liberation is a dangerous illusion that plays into the hands of the aggressor, Vladimir Putin.
The Green Party of Ukraine emphasises:
Dogmatic pacifism kills. As part of the global environmental movement, we share a commitment to peace. However, pacifism in the face of a ruthless invader does not stop war — it leads to occupation and the destruction of an entire nation. Ukraine is exercising its legitimate right to self-defence under Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The absurdity of a “UN veto”. Senator Shoebridge’s demand that arms supplies be authorised through the UN Security Council, where Russia holds the power of veto, is detached from reality. It is equivalent to asking a criminal for permission to call the police.
Russia’s war is causing massive ecocide. Russian forces deliberately destroy dams, mine millions of hectares of Ukraine’s fertile black soil, burn unique nature reserves and poison Europe’s water resources. Environmental protection is impossible without protecting the people who live in that environment. The only way to stop this ecological catastrophe is to stop the Russian army by force.
Unity among the global Greens. Green parties across Europe have long recognised this threat. They are at the forefront of political forces demanding maximum military assistance for Ukraine. We call on our Australian colleagues to follow the example of their European Green counterparts.
The Green Party of Ukraine welcomes the position taken by Australian Senator Sarah Hanson-Young Senator Sarah Hanson-Young and those members of the Australian Greens who have publicly spoken out in defence of Ukraine.
We call on David Shoebridge to reconsider his position, listen to the voices of Ukrainian environmentalists and support the provision of defensive weapons to Ukraine. Only victory over the aggressor can restore lasting peace and security to the European continent.

AUS has been playing Test cricket for 149 years
And currently four of the top eight leading wicket-takers of all-time are in the one Test team
2nd N Lyon - 573 wkts
4th M Starc - 448 wkts
6th P Cummins - 326 wkts
8th J Hazlewood - 311 wkts
With Hazlewood just two wickets behind 7th-placed Mitchell Johnson
Pretty impressive

Will this wake the Tasmanian thoroughbred and harness industries up? Or will they sleep through their own demise? #tasracing
The long wait for a new funding deed for Tasmanian racing continues with the latest minister responsible for delivering certainty to the industry, Roger Jaensch, saying final details are unlikely to be formalised before the state budget in May next year, while any new agreement is unlikely to be as long as the current 20 years.

This is a total fabrication. My comment was responding to the Greens' attack on me for supporting the SA ALP's greyhound decision. It was posted the day before this race was run.
@RockliffTeam knows this. They are complete and utter liars. #politas
Replying to @susanamet
It's shameful that Dean Winter wears this animal cruelty as a "badge of honour". #politas
The LK Group is paying $577 per week to lease the $150m Mystate Arena - less than a family would pay for an average three bedroom home in Glenorchy.
abc.net.au/news/2026-10-05/r… #politas
In the last five financial years, LK Group has paid net rent of between $15,878 and $29,353 for its lease of MyState Arena.
The government had claimed it was $200k.
For context, the average median rent for a family home in Glenorchy is $30,420 #politas

TasRacing has reported to ASIC that it expects lost
revenues from ending greyhond racing to match savings.
Therefore, the claim by the Greens and others that ending greyhound racing will save taxpayer dollars is utterly false.

How the Rockliff Government handles taswater price hikes:
1. Vote for a 40% price rise
2. Complain about it in the media
3. Vote for a slightly lower price rise
4. Complain in the media again
5. Claim credit for the bit that didn't happen #politas

Blow for Tasmanian Racing as Launceston Cup Loses Group 3 Status.
One of Tasmania’s most historic races has been downgraded to Listed level.
First run in 1865, the Launceston Cup is one of five Australian staying races to lose status.
A disappointing blow for Tasmanian racing.

12 months ago, Tasmania announced it would ban greyhound racing, with anti-racing activists tipping SA and WA to follow.
Today, the Tas Liberal Government has deferred its own Bill after failing to find support, while SA and WA Labor have recommitted to the industry.
It just goes to show how terrible the anti-racing campaign has been. The lecturing and talking down to regional Tasmanians by Jeremy Rockliff and the Greens has been very disappointing - and it has not worked.
Whether you agree with greyhound racing or not, you just cannot ignore how terribly @jeremyrockliff has treated decent people. He’s lied to them, betrayed them and called them thugs.
