The start of an exciting project with our many collaborators on converting waste Sargassum seaweed into bioproducts of value. The work is funded by Schmidt Sciences and is described here: rutgers.edu/news/scientists-…
Who doesn't love a beach retreat? dblab folks @CouchMicroscopy @timstep1383 @ChilleErin @ShriniNandi @g_panayotakis @KaseyH210 take a break after discussing future projects. Happy Labor Day Weekend everyone!
Congratulations to @ChilleErin for her paper on why genotype matters when studying coral stress responses (onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/…). You can hear the live version at @Evol_mtg. Congrats also to co-authors @timstep1383 Deeksha Misri @EmmaStrand4 and @HolliePutnam
What a pleasure to have Hwan Su Yoon from Sungkyunkwan University in S. Korea visiting us in New Jersey. His group is doing path-breaking, creative algal research. Our long-term collaboration has always been joyful and spirited.
Happy to have contributed to this excellent paper by @KEdougan in the group of @dorkyM that provides a model of how whole-genome duplication shaped evolution of the heat-tolerant coral algal symbiont, Durusdinium (science.org/doi/10.1126/scia…). Algae rock! Great work everyone.

Our work led by @KEDougan shows how genome duplication enhanced the efficiency of a #coral #algal #symbiont FINALLY out @ScienceAdvances! Fantastic collabs @ace_uq @UQ_SCMB @uts_c3 @FIU @aims_gov_au @BioSci_UniMelb @RutgersSEBS after years of hard work!

We have an opening in my lab for a postdoc with expertise in algal/seaweed biotechnology, in particular, metabolic engineering and carbohydrate biochemistry, with some bioinformatics training. Email me at [email protected], if this fits your background and aspirations
Our heartfelt thanks to collaborators at the Marine Innovation Hub and Fundemar (@Fundemardr) in the Dominican Republic for organizing our recent research visit and building an exciting coral reef conservation program together. We had a great time! @RutgersSEBS @RutgersNB
This paper was a lot of hard work, but worth it. We start to learn how Paulinella meets its CO2 needs in the chromatophore (enviromicro-journals.onlinel…). Congratulations Arwa G, @timstep1383 @JohnReinfelder @VickieCalatrava and Arthur G. @RutgersSEBS @RutgersNJAES @carnegiescience
Congratulations Dr. Van Etten! An exciting future awaits. You have made your family and friends proud. @CouchMicroscopy @RutgersSEBS @NASA @RutgersNJAES @NSF

Stoked to see that @DebashB and me became comic book characters in the new issue of @NASAAstrobio graphic novel! You will see a lot more familiar faces in this inspiring story about "How to become an Astrobiologist" issue 9 here: astrobiology.nasa.gov/resour…
An illustrated guide to building a career in astrobiology, courtesy of NASA (astrobiology.nasa.gov/upload…). An easy and inspiring read for all. @RutgersSEBS @RutgersNJAES @NASA @RutgersU_News @LFelipeB @CouchMicroscopy

Check out this great work by the newly minted Dr from Team CX @SarahShahansha that explores the genomes of free-living #Symbiodiniaceae, and provides a critical comparison for understanding the genomes and evolution of their symbiotic counterparts in #corals
New work led by @SarahShahansha revealed #genome reduction predating the divergence of #Symbiodiniaceae #dinoflagellates & origin of #coral #symbionts, out @ISMEJournal #evolution Great collab @ace_uq @UQ_SCMB @DebashB @RutgersSEBS @FIU More genome data!
