The mets in my bones (at least most of them) are ER+.
The mets in my liver are triple negative.
While there have been major advances for HER2+ and ER+ MBC, there haven’t been as many for TNBC.
We need research. Please donate to @metavivor
Day 23 - Triple Negative Breast Cancer (TNBC)
Triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) makes up about 15% of breast cancers.
We need safer, more effective treatments—and that means more metastatic research.
Don’t ignore stage IV.

Some personal news:
FIVE YEARS without evidence of disease! 🎉🪅🥳
God is good - and so are the incredible doctors and staff at @UTMDAnderson.
Get a second (or third or fourth) opinion, folks. It literally saved my life.
Self-exam. Get a mammogram. ADVOCATE for yourself.
(Because often, those first two things aren't enough)

🧬 #ScienceSaturday What if a T cell didn’t have to recognize #cancer to help destroy it?
We often think of cancer-fighting T cells as highly specific hunters that recognize a particular target on a cancer cell and attack it.
But a new study published in @NatImmunol suggests T cells may have another way to fight tumors.
🔬 Researchers found that activating “bystander” CD8+ T cells inside tumors, including #Tcells originally trained to recognize viruses, not cancer, was enough to trigger tumor destruction in experimental models.
Instead of directly recognizing and killing the cancer cells themselves, these activated T cells released powerful immune signals including interferon-gamma and TNF. Those signals recruited and activated other immune cells within the tumor, including myeloid cells, and helped generate nitric oxide and other molecules capable of killing cancer cells.
🛡️ In other words, the T cells acted almost like an alarm system: they activated the surrounding #immune environment and essentially recruited other cells to help do the killing.
The researchers showed that this tumor clearance could occur even without conventional tumor-specific T-cell recognition, challenging the idea that an effective T-cell response always requires T cells that directly recognize cancer.
💡 Why does this matter?
Many #tumors contain large numbers of “bystander” T cells that recognize viruses or other antigens rather than the tumor itself. If scientists can learn how to safely activate and harness these cells, they could potentially expand the pool of immune cells available to participate in an antitumor response.
The researchers also identified gene-expression patterns associated with this response that correlated with survival in patients with #melanoma, although much more work is needed to understand how this approach could translate to patients.
It’s another reminder that the immune system may have more than one way to attack cancer, sometimes, T cells may be able to kill by proxy. @Nature @NatureComms @NatureMedicine @Masopust_Vezys @oliviacs_ @UMNMSTP @Noah_V_Gavil @snguyen268 @shaleklab @umnmedschool @CFI_UMN @broadinstitute @ragoninstitute

ELECTRA (Phase 1b/2, interim Phase 2 data): elacestrant + abemaciclib in ER+/HER2- metastatic breast cancer with active brain mets, presented at the 2026 SNO/ASCO CNS Metastases Conference.
Both agents cross the BBB, reaching clinically meaningful plasma and CSF concentrations.
Efficacy in the interim analysis (patients with active brain mets, per BICR):
Overall RECIST v1.1 (n=21): ORR 14.3%, CBR-24wk 23.8%
Intracranial RECIST v1.1 (n=16): ORR 12.5%, CBR-24wk 25.0%
RANO-BM (n=16): ORR 18.8%, CBR-24wk 31.3%
That's a 2-3x jump in ORR vs historical endocrine therapy regimens, in a population that often has limited options.
One fatal carotid thrombosis (abemaciclib-related) led to revised eligibility criteria to reduce VTE risk.

It was a true pleasure to chat with @biannagolodryga & @0xfoo on @cnni the potential impact of the recent results from the @moderna_tx & @Merck P3 trial with mRNA-based vaccine in patients with high risk melanoma. This is a landmark moment in melanoma, cancer immunology, & IO drug development at large. Checkpoint inhibitors have allowed us to uncover & amplify the immune impact of cancer therapies we used for decades (e.g.,chemo, RT). Now, coupled with the powerful mRNA vaccine technology, finally unlocked the potential for personalized immunotherapy. Congrats to @Merck & @moderna_tx Grateful for our patients & research teams that allowed to participate in such a monumental accomplishment!
A promising step forward in melanoma treatment. 🧬💙
Merck and Moderna announced positive Phase 3 results from the INTerpath-001 trial, showing that an investigational, personalized mRNA-based therapy, intismeran autogene (V940), combined with KEYTRUDA, significantly improved recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival compared with KEYTRUDA alone in people with completely resected stage IIB-IV melanoma.
This is the first positive Phase 3 readout for an individualized neoantigen therapy and marks an important milestone for personalized cancer treatment. The therapy is designed using the unique genetic “fingerprint” of each patient’s tumor to help train the immune system to recognize and fight cancer cells.
The study will continue to evaluate overall survival, and the full data will be presented at an upcoming medical meeting and shared with regulators.
For people facing melanoma, every advance matters. Every breakthrough brings us closer to a future where more people can live longer—and live melanoma-free. 💙

JUST IN and via @Merck + @moderna_tx: A landmark moment for cancer immunotherapy. 🎯
Phase 3 INTerpath-001 is positive: the individualized mRNA neoantigen therapy intismeran (V940/mRNA-4157) + pembrolizumab significantly improved both RFS/DMFS vs pembrolizumab alone after resection of high-risk melanoma.
For years, the idea of designing a treatment around the unique mutations of each patient’s tumor seemed aspirational. Now we have the first positive Phase 3 trial (N=1137) of an individualized neoantigen therapy—and of an mRNA-based cancer therapy.
Personalized cancer vaccines are moving from promise to reality.
Now we need to see the magnitude of benefit, durability, and ultimately OS. But today is an important day for the field—and hopefully for our patients. 👏
