Can you sell board books manuscripts to publishers? A writer asks, and The Editor answers in today’s post: bit.ly/47WYrsY

Gotta admit, "rizz" is wholly new to me.
Per M-W: As a noun, rizz means “romantic appeal or charm” (as in “a bro who has rizz”); as a verb (typically used with up, as in “rizz up that cutie”) it means “to charm or seduce.” Internet-driven slang.
Cool, cool.
An eggnog toast! ✨3 weeks, 3 authors, 3 book deals… plus an author secured literary representation.✨ It’s happening, my bookmaking friends. Stay the course!

I won't jump from a plane to celebrate Candy Dahl's new picture book about the fearless woman who invented the parachute rip cord, but I will stand by a sign.
Belated happy book b-day to Candy Dahl & Maithili Joshi! TINY JUMPER

I edited a New Adult novel this weekend under a tree next to the Balboa Park Carousel, created in 1910 and originally called the Herschell Spillman Carousel.

My latest read is the Call the Midwife trilogy. I’m a fan of the tv series and now of the books. The relationship between book and screen versions is a very pleasing one. I found the storytelling riveting and the audiobook narration just perfect.
Edited a novel featuring high tech while amongst nature at the San Diego Zoo. This is at The Bridge, a lovely spot at one end the pedestrian Bashor Bridge, which spans 450 feet across the Panda Canyon. Amazing views of San Diego. #MobileEditingOffice

Three pitfalls to avoid when writing scary stories: Overusing exclamation points, overusing ellipses to drag things out, and overusing “suddenly” and “surprise”

Editing a novel on the beach at the famous Hotel del Coronado. Glorious day!

Fun fact: The Hotel Del Was the First Commercial Building Lit by Electricity, lit be Thomas Edison himself. See comments for the full fact about this.
Thomas Edison came to the Hotel del Coronado shortly before it opened to oversee the installation of electric lighting. When everything was in place, The Del became the first commercial structure to be illuminated by electricity.

I've been sitting with the news that Scholastic is self-censoring their Book Fairs since Tuesday. On Thursday I was invited to speak at a Scholastic Graphix party, and this is what I said. It's an earnest plea for the company with whom I have made so many books to do better.
