I was graced to have three poems appear in @ColumbiaJournal yesterday but made the mistake of posting them as a link. So here's a screenshot of one w a link in the comments. #poetry #sonnet #triolet

Oh my goodness. I would like this, please:
Golden cicada on a jade leaf, Ming dynasty (1368-1644). This sculpture was discovered in a tomb in 1954: it is the top of a hairpin, belonging to a woman of high rank. Nanging museum

A friend shared this gorgeous Elizabeth Barrett Browning sonnet today. I’d be curious as to how the meter nerds here resolve/read the penultimate line. #poetry

Li-Young Lee. I decided to avoid the famous poems and to strictly limit myself to one page poems. These all happen to be from Book of My Nights. #poetry

I feel like Linda Pastan missed an opportunity when she left this poem in free verse, as the formalist knows the pain of a rogue syllable like no other. Still, a good chuckle!

I’m late to Jacob Shores-Argüello’s in the Absence of Clocks. His subject, Ukraine, is as relevant as ever, though part of his book is set in the Orange Revolution of the aughts.

One of the things that is really hard about editing poems for me--probably moreso in meter--is that when you've been used to the word music and rhythm of one version for a long while, any change, no matter how right, may feel "off" because the ear anticipates a different sound.

This is torture:
Detainees at the privately owned ICE Otay Mesa detention center are throwing handwritten notes over the fence in lotion bottles, describing months without fresh food, constant illness, and being held in small cages "just big enough for a chair."
