I can't believe this still has under 200K views but the first time NxWorries ever performed together and premiered their music was at a Boiler Room in Russia in 2015. I remember seeing this back then and immediately being hooked: youtube.com/watch?v=Hm7ESOw2…
10 years ago today, NxWorries (Anderson .Paak & @knxwledge) dropped their debut album together, 'Yes Lawd!'
CLEO AT THE GARDEN. CRAZY.

Jay was chasing what was popular at the time: the Bad Boy formula. A standard old school sample/loop, heavy R&B lean and a colorful ass Hype Williams video. He literally has a shiny suit on. He was out of his element. If you like it, cool. But from a single standpoint? Not great.
Just to be super clear, Black culture is popular culture.

A genuinely good dude and exceptional human being. A writer, a connector and a conduit. Could be found most times w/ this exact smile on his face. RIP Hyun.
I might be tripping but I feel like at one point, briefly, Redman was more famous for this five and a half minutes on Cribs than he was his actual music career.

The pod space has been flooded w/ ppl sans media or journalism backgrounds. Most are not good. Melo is an exception. 7PM is actually a great show. But we can't get tight bc an actual PULITZER PRIZE-WINNING JOURNALIST wants to use his podcast to do what he went to school for.

Fruits of Nature is a strong debut, man. It's a really fun listen. So much creativity going on. Sample nerds should study it. Also: the UMCs (from Staten Island) predate the Wu-Tang Clan by a full two years but reference Wu-Tang *twice* on this album.

The original poster prob wasn't around for this so I'll clarify: the "hip hop all star special" was Arsenio's last show on May 27, 1994. It was a surprise for him. Every artist on that stage was indebted to him bc Arsenio was the only late night talk show giving hip hop airtime.
The UK has fed us so well this year.
