For #India, a hybrid undersea force makes strategic sense as its submarine numbers are set to decline. Co-developing large uncrewed submersibles with a partner, backed by a dedicated capital outlay, may be the fastest route to protecting its nuclear submarine fleet and its deterrence: @mutuneer & Deepshi Grover or-f.org/40793 #UnderseaWarfare #IndianNavy

In my latest article for @orfonline, co-authored with @DeepshiGrover, we make the case for a hybrid undersea naval force. For 🇮🇳, this means focused investment, a clear call to action, and well-defined operational concepts.

Doctrine for autonomous undersea systems is lagging behind technology. As Extra-large uncrewed undersea vehicles (#XLUUVs) move towards kinetic payloads, navies must decide where autonomous execution ends and human authorisation begins, or risk an encounter between rival drones escalating into conventional hostilities: @mutuneer & Deepshi Grover or-f.org/40793 #UnderseaWarfare #NavalStrategy

Happy to share another specially curated section on #INSVKaundinya, a vessel whose journey highlights India's profound maritime prowess in #IndianOcean. Its name revives the timeless legacy of a legendary sailor, #Kaundinya from #Kalinga.

At @nalanda_univ, began Sunday morning with an unscheduled interaction with the students, at their request and organised at their initiative. The vice-chancellor attended and chaired. The students’ questions (as well as their turnout on a Sunday morning!) were very impressive and augured well for the rest of my time at Nalanda.
