The Montana Libertarian Party (“MTLP”) is filing multiple FOIA requests to gather information related to the ‘Defend the Guard’ Act, including details regarding publicly funded helicopter rides and tours of Fort Harrison that were provided to legislators, alleged threats that funds and equipment would be pulled if the ‘Defend the Guard’ Act passes, the identification of public officials and military personnel making such claims, and more.
The ‘Defend the Guard’ Act, which would prohibit the governor from releasing the Montana National Guard into combat zones if Congress has not declared war, is a top priority for the MTLP because, like most Montanans, we are tired of seeing our men and women deployed to endless wars that Congress is unwilling to sign onto.
We intend to find out the extent of the waste, fraud, and abuse used to lobby against it.
