There has been speculation that Netanyahu might try to accidentally on purpose provoke a resumption of war with Iran, in hopes of helping him in his election. The Israeli chief of staff appears to share that concern.
Israel's Channel 12 Reporting (English translation of their report:)
Breaking news in this edition
An unprecedented confrontation between the Chief of Staff and the Prime Minister has reached a critical—or perhaps disastrous—turning point over the last 24 hours.
At the heart of the matter: the Iranian issue.
There is concern on the part of [Chief of Staff] Zamir that Netanyahu and the political leadership might trigger a scenario of miscalculation vis-à-vis Iran, just ahead of the elections.
A defense official states that the action in question could lead to a rapid confrontation with Iran at a highly sensitive and dramatic moment, potentially resulting in a miscalculation.
Sources familiar with the details indicate that the military leadership fears an attempt to exploit the Iranian issue for political gain—a claim that political figures deny, labeling it an outright lie.
Regardless, two sources tell me that the situation has escalated to the point where, during a visit to the Palmachim Airbase today, the atmosphere in the discussion was extremely tense.
In recent days, Zamir received a directive from the political leadership but requested an in-depth discussion before taking any action.
He also demanded formal, signed legal authorization from the political echelon for the proposed move.
A senior defense official remarked: "History will not forget the role Zamir has played here over the last few days."
In short: an exceptionally intense confrontation between Zamir and Netanyahu regarding the Iranian issue, occurring just before the elections.
It should be noted: all details in this report have been approved by the Military Censor.

This is the most revealing interview clip from Netanyahu I have ever seen. Netanyahu explains that Israel is facing global sanctions and an end to US aid and proposes the use of blockchain and crypto as a solution. This is very telling:
1) Netanyahu is planning for a future of sanctions evasion. He believes that it is facing a similar future to Russia and Iran. Having seen them both survive that he believes Israel can do it too and seems resigned.
2) He believes Israel has lost active American support and does not think it can fight it.
3) The kind of blockchain and crypto solution he is discussing is not meant to uphold an entire economy. Rather, it is a good way for an elite to keep functioning while the people are in poverty.
His plan is to move Israel further towards an isolated kleptocracy, while continuing to commit genocide and ethnic cleansing. This is the Israeli future.

This is a completely inappropriate intervention in Israel’s internal affairs, sovereignty, and democracy.
Foreign leaders should not be endorsing candidates, and candidates should definitely not be soliciting such endorsements.
To the Great People of Israel:
Bibi Netanyahu has been a great wartime Prime Minister, and an even greater partner for peace in the fight against the Islamic Republic of Iran, with its 51-year-old slogan: “Death to Israel, Death to America! We will destroy the Little Satan and the Great Satan.”
What country can survive when such things are allowed to be said, because eventually, they always come true? It was only a matter of time before Iran carried out this threatening declaration, but they have been systematically destroyed, both militarily and economically, and if they do not change their ways quickly, we will soon finish the job.
If Israel has the wrong leader, meaning anyone other than Bibi, America will have to do this job itself, and I am not inclined to do that.
Bibi Netanyahu has been strong, courageous, and brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including opposition that came from within Israel itself. Despite all of this, he persevered and, in fact, even thrived!
I watched Bibi during the most difficult times. Ordinary men or women in such situations would have collapsed under the pressure — but Bibi did not collapse. In fact, he became even stronger, and he maintains that same strength today.
This is the kind of partner that the United States of America demands from Israel, a country for which it has done so much.
Please consider this letter my full and complete endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu as he prepares to run for another term as Prime Minister of Israel in the upcoming election.
Bibi Netanyahu will never let you down!
Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Dear @POTUS,
We don't know why you would belittle your presidency to the extent of endorsing a dead-horse such as Netanyahu. Nor do we know what promises he may have made to secure such an endorsement.
We do know is that he on his way out (and down).
As to your endorsement...

Repeat after us @haaretzcom: "masked Jewish/Israeli terrorists".
The keyword here is "terrorists".
Masked Israeli settlers attacked a delegation of European diplomats and public figures, as well as Palestinian olive harvesters, in the Christian village of Taybeh near Ramallah on Saturday.
The attackers also smashed a window of a Belgian consular vehicle, the reports said.

This condemnation is no more than lip service. In reality, this is what' really going on:
The Def. Min. is racially profiling who he enables the Shin Bet to investigate
The Fin. Min. is routing billions to these activities
The Pol. Min. and the police are turning a blind eye
The Prime Minister’s Office:
The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation.
Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable.
But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual.
The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence.
We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria.
The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

💥I will say this until I die: Benjamin Netanyahu has quashed any possible investigation into October 7 because the implications for him, personally, are cataclysmic. Incalculable. And he has nowhere to flee.
These aren't "activists"
What they are is:
• strong arm rioters
• a Netanyahu affiliated Basij
• violent provocateurs
• government backed criminals
• racist delinquents

The head of Israel’s Democrats party and former IDF Deputy Chief of Staff @YairGolan1 , made the exact same point couple of days ago: taking out Khamenei was a strategic mistake that just handed the keys to violent ultra-extremists. Regime change by force is completely unrealistic.

Phil Gordon was also "in the room" during the war. I spoke to multiple other senior Biden officials who share his view
Netanyahu supporters seem to be taking advantage of @Brett_McGurk’s book and interviews to claim vindication for Netanyahu’s conduct of the war in Gaza. But while Brett’s front-row account is valuable, that doesn’t mean it is definitive or its perspectives widely shared—including among former members of the Biden administration.
I would say most of my former colleagues think that President Biden should have put more pressure on Israel to conduct the war differently and end it sooner, and few think that the biggest mistake Biden made was to show daylight with Israel. And even Brett’s account makes clear that hostages were not the top priority for Netanyahu and that when U.S. pressure actually was applied—as after the World Central Kitchen strike—it worked.
Brett tells the story of the Biden phone call after that tragedy, but not the story of how Biden called Netanyahu on July 4, 2024 to press him to conclude the hostage deal after Hamas had finally accepted the basic framework, dropping its demand that Israel commit to a permanent ceasefire before any hostages were released. Netanyahu instead added so many of his own conditions—against the advice of his own security chiefs—that the deal became impossible for another six months, during which nearly 9,000 more Palestinians were killed and more Israeli hostages died, including the six that Hamas executed in August. The Israeli changes included a demand that Israel retain forces along Gaza’s entire border with Egypt, which the IDF had seized only after the original proposal, and a new enforcement mechanism to screen Gazans who were returning home to the north which would have required Israeli troops to remain in central Gaza. Both of those new conditions were dropped in the deal ultimately concluded in January 2025.
Nothing in the book or elsewhere changes the reality that October 7 happened on Netanyahu’s watch; that he prioritized “total victory” and the maintenance of his coalition over a hostage deal or an end of the war; that his conduct of the war and management of its humanitarian consequences catastrophic; that it has left Israel more isolated and insecure; and that it has deeply damaged, perhaps irreparably, Israel’s relationship with the United States—which should have done more to change Israel’s conduct rather than enable it. There was never an easy way forward in Gaza, but no version of the story vindicates Netanyahu.
