Applications are open for the Bail Compliance and Warrant Apprehension Grant. Funding will give police the tools they need to prevent repeat and violent offenders from committing serious crimes while out on bail. Police services and boards can apply on Transfer Payment Ontario.

Need a new charger or cable? 🔌🔋 Just because a replacement fits doesn’t mean it’s made for your device. Check the manufacturer’s instructions and use a recommended or original replacement. Off-brand charging cables can increase the risk of fire. 🔥 #FirePreventionWeek2026 #FPW2026

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day, but unsafe charging can spark a fire. Use manufacturer-approved chargers, charge devices on hard surfaces and keep them away from heat. @ONFireMarshal #FirePreventionWeek

Where you charge matters. 🔋 Never charge e-bikes, e-scooters or other lithium-ion battery-powered devices in doorways, hallways or escape routes. Keep your way out clear. Think before you charge — don’t block your escape. 🔥 #FirePreventionWeek2026

Smoke alarms save lives, but only if they're working. 🚨 Today, we launched the fourth annual Test Your Smoke Alarm Day at Fanshawe College, bringing together fire safety leaders, community partners and students to share a simple but critical message: working smoke alarms save lives. As part of the event, we connected with post-secondary students, many of whom are living away from home for the first time, to highlight the importance of knowing their fire safety responsibilities and ensuring their smoke alarms are working. Swipe through for key quotes and takeaways from today's speakers. ➡️ Then take a minute to test your smoke alarms, check your batteries and make sure your household is protected. #TestYourSmokeAlarmDay #SavedByTheBeep

Today, we honour the lives of Carol Culleton, Anastasia Kuzyk and Nathalie Warmerdam. Their tragic deaths in 2015 led to the CKW Inquest and 86 recommendations to strengthen Ontario’s response to intimate partner violence (IPV). To help those experiencing IPV, the OPP has modernized its Personal Safety Plan and added additional resources to support informed decision-making, safety planning and access to community services. The OPP remains committed to a victim-centred, trauma-informed approach that prioritizes survivor safety and works to prevent future harm. 🔗 Visit opp.ca/IPV for information, safety planning tools and support resources.

Think before you toss. Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable batteries and power many of the devices we use every day from phones and laptops to power tools, e-bikes, toys, and more. But when they're no longer needed, never put them in the garbage. Improperly disposed lithium-ion batteries can be damaged during collection and processing, potentially causing fires in garbage trucks, recycling facilities, and landfills. Before disposing of a lithium-ion battery: ✔ tape the battery terminals ✔ store it in a cool, dry place ✔ take it to a designated battery recycling or household hazardous waste collection site ✔ contact your municipality for local disposal options ⚠️ If a battery is damaged, leaking, swollen, overheating, or making unusual noises, stop using it immediately and dispose of it safely. A few extra minutes can help prevent a fire. Learn more: ChargedForLife.ca

Firefighter recruits from across Ontario came together for the NFPA 1010 Firefighter Level I Pilot, testing an innovative blended learning model that paired online theory with hands-on training. Beyond earning their certification, participants shared valuable feedback that will help shape the future of Firefighter Level I training across the province. Over 7 days of practical instruction and 1 day of testing, recruits built the knowledge, skills, teamwork, resilience, and professionalism needed to thrive in the fire service. Their hard work and commitment are helping strengthen training for the next generation of firefighters. A big thank you to everyone who helped make this pilot a success and supported the future of firefighter training in Ontario. @crfdsicr

Today, @DRPS came together to honour and remember Constable in Training (CIT) Tyrone Magbitang.   We are deeply grateful to everyone who joined Tyrone’s family, friends, and colleagues to celebrate his life and recognize the profound impact he had on so many.   Tyrone’s kindness, compassion, dedication, and unwavering commitment to others left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. While his life was far too short, his legacy will live on through the lives he touched, the friendships he built, and the example he set.   We would also like to extend our sincere appreciation to our policing partners who stood beside Tyrone’s family and the Durham Regional Police Service throughout this difficult week. In particular, we thank the Ontario Provincial Police (@OPPNews), London Police Service (@lpsmediaoffice), and Toronto Police Service (@TorontoPolice) for their extraordinary compassion, professionalism, and support. Your members went above and beyond, and your kindness will never be forgotten.   We also wish to recognize and thank Dignity Memorial, Oshawa Funeral Home, Scarborough Funeral Centre, and Embassy Church for their exceptional support in coordinating the visitations, transportation, and funeral services. Their professionalism and care were instrumental in ensuring these arrangements were carried out with dignity and respect.   To Tyrone’s family and loved ones, please know that you remain in our thoughts and that the DRPS family stands with you today and in the days ahead.   Tyrone will always be remembered as one of our own.   Please keep our fellow Constable-in-Training in your thoughts. We remain hopeful about their continued recovery.   Chief Peter Moreira   #DRPS #HonouringTyrone #PoliceFamily #Community #NeverForgotten

Today, we laid to rest a trusted and loyal guardian: our fallen colleague, Provincial Constable Tarun Bali. Provincial Constable Tarun Bali’s life was cut unjustly and tragically short, though not before he fulfilled his childhood dream of becoming a police officer, and far exceeded every expectation entrusted to him as a proud and dedicated member of the OPP. Provincial Constable Bali has left us with a powerful reminder: that service above self is both an honour and a responsibility. We will do as you faithfully did – we will courageously and tirelessly continue to serve our province and protect its citizens. Tarun, we have the watch from here. May you rest in peace.
