5,378 children without a permanent home in Northern Ireland – 3,385 of them under nine. The latest figures from the Northern Ireland Department for Communities reveal a 121% increase in children living in temporary accommodation since 2019. This stark reality highlights the deepening housing crisis that thousands of families face every day. At Depaul Ireland, we see the impact of homelessness daily through our family accommodation services. These numbers are heartbreaking, but they confirm what we’ve feared for sometime – a worsening crisis that demands urgent action. Every child deserves a safe and stable home. Let’s work together to make this a reality. As we mark #WorldChildrensDay today our attention turns to the almost 10,000 children experiencing homelessness on the island of Ireland. Today, we want to shine a light on these children, displaced from their homes, friends, schools and those living in short-term, emergency accommodation. At Depaul, we are advocating for a child’s right to have security and a place they can call their own - a forever home. Donate today to help us to make this a reality for children in our services: ie.depaulcharity.org/donate/ #EndHomelessness #HomelessnessHasNoPlace

As we see the latest rise in the number of homeless - Depaul Ireland is calling on any new government to take radical action as we hit a new record level with 14,760 accessing local authority managed emergency accommodation. A radical approach is needed to addressing this national crisis. The housing market is not working for those most vulnerable, and the coming election must give hope to those more than 14,760 people languishing in temporary accommodation.

Depaul Ireland’s Presents for All – you can give a gift and show you care this Christmas. As we approach the Christmas season, we remember the almost 10,000 children on the island of Ireland who are living in emergency homeless accommodation – some now facing their second or third Christmas without a home. Many more living in overcrowded or unsafe conditions, with family, friends, or even in cars. Depaul’s Presents for All campaign gives you or your company the chance to make a difference by giving a gift to each person in our homeless services this Christmas. For just €15/£15 for a child or €25/£25 for an adult, you can give them the most important gift of all – the knowledge that someone cares. For only €15/£15, you can brighten someone’s Christmas in our homeless services. Help us show that no one is forgotten this festive season. ie.depaulcharity.org/event/p…
