Do you know whose land you’re standing on right now?
For a long time, I didn’t. Today, on #IndigenousPeoplesDay, I want to share why this day matters so deeply to me—and why it should matter to all of us. 🧵
The name Pinole comes from a meal of ground acorns and seeds that the people of this land shared with hungry Spanish soldiers 300 years ago.
They gave without asking for anything in return. That debt has never been fully repaid.
So, whose land are you standing on?
Native people never left. Today, we honor them by learning, giving back, and following their lead. Start at native-land.ca, support Indigenous-led land trusts, and show up when called.

The Black Panther Party is remembered for its masculine, militant image, but the female members ran ‘survival programs’ that made a lasting impact on U.S. society. eastbaytimes.com/2026/10/11/…

Wishing a very happy 100th birthday to the iconic Opal Lee! Our nation owes you a deep debt of gratitude for your lifelong leadership lifting up Black communities and preserving our history, including the fight to make Juneteenth a national holiday. It was such a privilege to get to celebrate with you today. ❤️

Right now, 657,000 people in the U.S. are in jail. The vast majority have yet to be tried in court and are legally innocent.
Does that look like a system built on justice?
