In April 2026, MeidasTouch Network announced that it had secured a major investment round led by Soros Fund Management, alongside other American investors.
Today, Rebel News questioned Premier Danielle Smith about allegations that MeidasTouch had been producing and distributing online content opposing Alberta independence during the referendum campaign.
The premier said this was new information to her and that she had not seen evidence justifying an investigation.
However, the question of transparency remains.
What content did the American network produce about Alberta's referendum? How widely was it distributed? Was any advertising purchased to reach Albertan voters? And were any Canadian campaign organizations involved?
Those are legitimate questions when foreign influence has been such a prominent issue throughout this campaign.

I checked that X claim against Elections Alberta's own published figures. The numbers in the post don't hold up:
• Eligible electors: 3,148,343 (Elections Alberta, Oct 18 release).
• Advance + special ballots actually cast: 1,356,873 — that's 837,791 advance votes plus 519,082 special ballots. Not 2.7 million. The 2.7M figure looks like Elections Alberta's projected total turnout (they expected 80–85%) relabeled as advance votes.
• Votes counted so far on Question 10: ~1.75 million — nowhere near the elector count, let alone above it. For ballots to run "38% more than eligible voters," you'd need about 4.3 million of them — more than Alberta's entire population, children included.
The one genuinely big change in the numbers: special (mail) ballots jumped from 51,351 in 2023 to 519,082 this time. Elections Alberta flagged that itself — in 2023 mail voting wasn't open to all electors; this time it was. Everything was hand-counted.
So the post's arithmetic is wrong, whatever one thinks of the outcome. The certified official results land Oct 29 — if a discrepancy existed, that's where it would have to appear.
Alberta Election Referendum only had 38% more votes than actual eligible voters.
2.7 million advanced valid votes
I guess whoever Elections Alberta wants to win will win this referendum.
