I would like to thank all those who have prayed for me in recent days. I wish to express my particular gratitude to the doctors, nurses and all the staff of the Gemelli Hospital. This experience has made me feel particularly close to all those who are living with illness or infirmity. Now that I have overcome this delicate phase I will gradually resume my activities, always with God’s help and your prayers.

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass at noon on Friday in the room set up on the 10th floor of Gemelli Hospital, according to the Holy See Press Office. Several members of Gemelli's medical and nursing staff attended the Mass, along with members of the Vatican City State Gendarmerie Corps. "In his homily, the Pope thanked all the staff—doctors, nurses, and orderlies—for the work they do every day caring for patients in their frailty, and especially for what they have done and continue to do for him," read the statement.

St. Carlo was known among his friends and family as being incredibly humble and kind. He was approachable and friendly – not proud and distant. He wanted to reach people where they were in their journey of faith. With a deep love for God and for others, Carlo had a desire to evangelize to the world. Pope St. John Paul II called Christians to a new evangelization. When he was only eleven years old, Carlo answered this call to the new evangelization by designing a website that included 150 Eucharistic miracles. He completed the website the year before he died. Since that time, his website has been turned into a traveling exhibition that has been to many countries on five continents. Countless people have been strengthened in their faith due to this website and exhibition. Even as a teenager, Carlo was able to reach the world with the message of Jesus. St. Carlo experienced much suffering at the end of his life. As Carlo was dying of leukemia, a doctor asked him about his pain. He responded, “There are people who suffer much more than me.” ewtnmission.com/seasonsandfe…

Intelligence must draw on memory. The mind must not simply compile data — as an algorithm now does more quickly than we can — but recall lived experiences, which contain depths of meaning that only the human soul can recognize, and connect more deeply with the goodness of these experiences. Everything that is good begins “with the Spirit” and thus possesses a breath, a dynamism and a sense of communion that, once experienced, are engraved upon the heart. vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/e…

In this era of artificial intelligence, it is becoming urgent to distinguish human art from what machines produce. There is an ontological difference, even before an aesthetic one, between art and what a machine can generate through statistical calculation based on millions of images created by others. Algorithms lack the spark of humanity. For this reason, the Church wishes to renew an alliance with artists and cultural institutions to safeguard our humanity.
