Mark Carney is fighting First Nations' right to water
Did you know, Carney’s Liberal government’s Bill C-37 violates international law surrounding First Nations' clean drinking water, this includes United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. Even though it mentions UNDRIP, it deliberately excludes Article 25 that protects Indigenous people’s traditionally owned waters and coastal seas.
Bill C-37 is a clear violation of Indigenous rights, and it must be significantly amended, or else rejected altogether.

Ko Tinmaung, Rohingya Toronto based humanitarian, arrived at Toronto Airport last night after being kidnapped and tortured by the IOF for trying to bring aid to Gaza.
He was detained by @PeelPolice and not allowed to see his friends or parents who were waiting for him.
Ko was forced into a police vehicle and driven to a masjid in the middle of the night.
For comparison, just last week, Ontario welcomed weapons companies like Elbit and IAI – directly involved in genocide – with open arms.
Ko Tinmaung, a Toronto-based Rohingya activist, has been released after more than 96 hours in Israeli detention following Israel’s hijacking of the Global Sumud Flotilla and the abduction of its civilian participants.
His testimony is horrifying.
He says he was beaten in a dark room by more than five people, kicked, punched, tasered in multiple places, and handcuffed so tightly that the restraints cut into his wrists and restricted blood flow. He says he still needs treatment for concussion-like injuries.
He also says he witnessed other detainees with broken ribs, head wounds, blood from their ears, eye injuries, broken noses and broken teeth. Most gravely, he alleges sexual assaults, including people being tasered on their genitals.
Tinmaung’s testimony also exposes the racial dimension of Israeli violence. He says he was mocked as “Ahmed”, assaulted further, laughed at because of his skin colour, and treated as if his passport had no value because he was brown.
This was a civilian-led humanitarian mission carrying food, aid and basic supplies to Gaza. So where is Canada? Where are the human rights organisations? Where are the global leadership councils, the moral authorities, the professional defenders of accountability?
Silence now is not neutrality. It is complicity.

He saw it coming. In 1961. And nobody listened.
Frantz Fanon was dying of leukemia when he finished *The Wretched of the Earth*. He knew he would not live to see independence spread across Africa. But he warned — with surgical precision — what would happen after the flags went up.
He said the national bourgeoisie, the African elite trained in colonial schools, would simply inherit the machinery of oppression. They would not dismantle the system. They would wear it.
That is not a metaphor. That is the biography of dozens of African governments since 1960.
Fanon understood that political independence without psychological and economic decolonization was theater. The colonial wound does not heal by changing the flag. It festers when the same structures remain — the same debt systems, the same land arrangements, the same educational frameworks designed to produce obedient workers, not sovereign thinkers.
Sixty-five years later, the IMF still writes Africa's budget. Western capitals still decide who leads. And African children still learn history through the eyes of those who colonized them.
Fanon did not predict failure. He predicted betrayal.
Who exactly is doing the betraying — and are we willing to name them?

What a lot of people still don't understand is that, since 2007, Israel has strictly controlled everything & everyone that goes in and out of Gaza. Israel controls Gaza's land borders, territorial waters, airspace, imports, and exports. This is why Gaza is considered to be under Israeli military occupation since 1967, even though Zionists will tell you that the occupation ended when they dismantled their (illegal) Gaza settlements.
If I tried to sail to Gaza's coast, without even passing into Israeli territorial waters, my ship would be raided and seized by the IDF. This has happened to every single boat that has tried to sail to Gaza since 2010.
This blockade has shaped nearly every facet of life in Gaza since 2007, prohibiting Palestinian people from importing basic items that most of us take for granted every day. Furthermore, this blockade prohibits Palestinians themselves from leaving the Gaza Strip without explicit permission from the IDF, which only happens under extremely rare circumstances. For the average Palestinian, leaving the cage that Israel has built around them is practically impossible. The Egyptian government, being a puppet of the United States and Israel, has played along with Israel in enforcing the blockade.
For various periods of time since 2007, Israel has used this occupation to arbitrarily block and restrict the following (non-exhaustive) list of items from entering the Gaza Strip, often labeling them as 'dual use':
- wood
- wheelchairs
- water purification and filtration systems
- anesthetics
- generators & fuel
- paper
- children's toys
- crutches
- potato chips
- communications infrastructure & equipment
- concrete
- oxygen cylinders
- chocolate
- fishing nets
I know it sounds like I'm exaggerating or omitting key details. But if you don't believe me, look it up for yourself. I had the same reaction when I first learned about the blockade in 2024.
This blockade is so crippling to daily life in the Gaza Strip that, by the end of the third quarter of 2022, Gaza had an unemployment rate of 46%, the highest of anywhere in the world. Among 15-29 year olds, the unemployment rate was even higher, at 62%.
Israel expects Palestinian people in Gaza to be okay with a life of languishing and death while confined to a strip of land one-fifth the size of Rhode Island, never being allowed to prosper, flourish, or accomplish their dreams. This is how life in Gaza has been for nearly 20 years.
How is any human supposed to live like this without going insane? What could possibly be the purpose of restricting anesthetics, besides inflicting as much pain and suffering as possible?
We are currently facing a major obstacle: how to obtain books, due to the extremely high cost of paper and ink. Israel continues to completely block the entry of paper.
We urgently need financial support to complete the project and to build the first library after the genocide.
