Did you know Ukara is a traditional Igbo textile similar to Adirẹ Alabẹrẹ from Yoruba? It's created using stictch-resist technique of Nsibidi signs and symbols to communicate ideas. My Adire wall art allows the pulse of african history and stories to be carried into homes.
Post your traditional art only. 🎨 No digital art. Let’s see those physical mediums!

Come next Friday, I will be moderating a panel discussion with Dr Segun Akinlolu (popularly known as @Beautiful_Nubia) on his novel Citadel Blues at @Ibadanfestival. As I understand it, he wrote the book as an undergraduate many years ago, and that is simply impressive.

Yoruba culture honours Animals The Yorùbá attach great importance to oríkì, the laudatory/descriptive poetry of the Yorùbá. So they have personal oríkì addressed to individuals and they also have lineage or clan oríkì panegyric. A close observation of the Yorùbá people reveals that they also create oríkì for their animals. There are numerous examples of animal panegyric in the tradition, and some are included below. The first one is about antelope, which they call Etu.
