🚨 Bengaluru high rise fire raises a terrifying question.
An 8th floor apartment reportedly burned for over an hour. Residents had to step in as the first fire engine allegedly arrived WITHOUT a ladder.
A ladder equipped truck reportedly arrived nearly 2 hours later.
What happens when people are trapped above the reach of emergency crews?
Who is accountable for this response?
Fire safety cannot arrive two hours late. Bengaluru deserves answers.

NYT South Asia Bureau chief apparently wants to doxx the writer who criticised a jihadist, ladies and gentlemen.
Divya Radhakrishnan retweeted
What he means is that my brothers are finding it hard to hunt him down.
Why exactly do you need to know his real identity?
Ibn Khaldun Bharati writes on one of the most sensitive fault lines in Indian public life. Revealing his identity could mean professional consequences, social ostracisation, threats, harassment, or worse.
A pseudonym is not automatically an escape from accountability. His arguments are right there in public. Read them. Challenge them. Tear them apart line by line if they are wrong.
But why must the man behind them be exposed?
What does his Aadhaar name add to the intellectual argument?
Nothing.
What it does add is a target.
Once his identity is known, people can find his employer, family, neighbourhood, community and personal history. Suddenly the debate is no longer about what he wrote. It becomes about who he is and what pressure can be brought upon him.
That is precisely why pseudonyms have existed in political writing for centuries.
Demand accountability for ideas, yes.
Demanding that a pseudonymous writer reveal himself despite foreseeable personal risk starts looking less like accountability and more like an invitation to doxxing.
If his argument is bad, defeat the argument.
Why do you need the address of the man making it?

Mujib, the byline is a pseudonym. But the publisher isn’t.
ThePrint is publicly accountable for what it publishes. Which factual claim are you challenging and why does answering it require the writer’s real name?
As an Indian Muslim, I find this extraordinary, a Muslim critiques Islamist politics, and the debate shifts from his argument to his identity.
Challenge his facts and type out a rebuttal. A birth certificate is not a counterargument.

1/5 Sharjeel Imam has given an interview detailing his Islamist manifesto. Surprisingly, no storm has been kicked up over pronouncements that are so unapologetically anti-liberal, anti-secular, anti-democracy, anti-Constitution—in a word, anti-national.
2/5 He openly calls the Constitution fascist, labels secularism a trap, and denounces democracy as a contrivance to deny Muslims their political rights.
3/5 The piece is a litany of indictments against the liberal class. Imam rejects any difference between liberals and Hindutvadis. In his essentialist worldview, all Hindus are the same, unanimous in denying Muslims political power they claim as a divine right.
4/5 Inadvertently, Sharjeel has recognised something that liberals have been fighting shy of acknowledging: that Hindutva’s idea of India is anchored in the same “overarching nationalist framework”— that Muslims are Indians above all else.
5/5 For more, read this Opinion article by Ibn Khaldun Bharati, who looks at Islam from an Indian perspective:
Sharjeel Imam’s Islamist manifesto will be forgotten. The silence of liberals will not

Kuch toh naya rage bait karo 😭 how are you people recycling the same tweets for years now?

Jean Dreze is probably laughing his guts out at the hysteria he has triggered among a certain genre of folks on X.
However, a small detail is worth sharing amid this unfolding tragi-comedy - it would have been tough for Nehru to throw out Dreze after 1947.
Reason -Drèze was born on January 22, 1959, in Leuven, Belgium; he arrived in India in 1979 to study and work.
Nehru died in 1964.
I believe they don’t let you take executive decisions once you are dead.
Dreze is an Indian citizen. He became one in 2002 when he renounced his Belgian citizenship.
Comically, all this excitement is misplaced.
You can’t throw out an Indian citizen simply because he is ‘gora’ or fair-skinned.
Imagine what would happen, if other countries explicitly used colour of skin as a reason to throw out people even when they had become nationals of that country.
Guess who would be screaming the most.

I think what is actually needed is for Indian people to actually give a damn about their cities and fellow citizens.
Anybody using the "I pay taxes, I shouldn't have to do anything" excuse should go live in another country. India isn't developed, it's developing, so it needs patriots, not parasites. If this triggers you, it means you're part of the problem.
If you're not happy with the footpath (or a pothole, or anything else which is broken), fix it, or call someone to fix it, and don't give up until it's fixed. Be relentless. Be vocal. Be creative. Make it your mission to get that one thing fixed. Look at what Virendra (@Virendra0698) did by just calling the right people and being respectful (but also persistent). He and Arun Pai (@arunpaiblrwalks) along with the help of GBA and some wonderful volunteers turned an unofficial garbage dump into a pristine, beautiful footpath through sheer force of will.

!!! I have no words - we have a first-hand confession by the Hindu Raksha Dal leader that he was violent with protestors!
@DelhiPolice I assume you will track his phone, send 10 IB guys to his house, and lock him up in Tihar? Oh wait - you reserve that for peaceful protestors.
“We are not bound by anything, we only follow Sanatan Dharma.”
Hindu Raksha Dal chief Pinky Bhaiya has claimed responsibility for violence against CJP protesters in Delhi.
In an interview with Outlook’s Gyan Verma, he discusses the attacks, his organisation’s position on the police and the Constitution, its alleged links to the BJP, the criminal cases against him and his vision of Hindutva.
