This killer cop was spared a perp walk upon arrest; was given time to scrub his social media accounts, prepare a defense strategy, and shuffle around assets; and had his name and photo kept out of the press for weeks. Throw every book at him.
For the first time, we're getting a look at former NYPD detective Victor Romero as he walks into court in the fatal George Washington Bridge shooting case. Romero is accused in the death of Koran Irvine. 7ny.tv/29ELN5

Before millions knew Rosetta LeNoire as Mother Winslow on Family Matters, she had spent decades creating opportunities for performers of color who were often overlooked by the entertainment industry. Her journey began with hardship. As a child in New York, she suffered from rickets and spent years in leg braces. The legendary dancer Bill “Bojangles” Robinson became a family friend, encouraged her and gave her the nickname “Brown Sugar.” LeNoire eventually became a dancer and actress, appearing in Orson Welles's all-Black production of Macbeth, Broadway's The Hot Mikado and the original stage production of Anna Lucasta. But her career also exposed the narrow roles available to Black actresses. She often found herself cast as maids and domestic workers, even after establishing herself as a respected performer. In 1968, she turned that frustration into action by founding AMAS Repertory Theater in New York. She wanted to create a stage where actors from different racial and cultural backgrounds could work together and where performers of color could be seen for their talent rather than confined by stereotypes. AMAS became an important home for diverse theater, eventually producing dozens of original works. One of its major successes was Bubbling Brown Sugar, the musical LeNoire helped bring to Broadway in 1976. The production celebrated Harlem's artistic history and ran for hundreds of performances. Years later, television audiences knew LeNoire as Estelle Winslow, the beloved grandmother on Family Matters, but she continued supporting theater behind the scenes. Her contributions were recognized with the National Medal of Arts in 1999. She died in 2002 at age 90, leaving behind a legacy that reached far beyond the roles she performed. Rosetta LeNoire did not simply ask for more opportunities for Black and other underrepresented artists. She helped build places where those opportunities could exist.

50 years ago today The Mothership landed. It was a day the earth couldn’t stand still. If you heard any noise, it was just George and the boys, gettin’ down. 50 years later that Mothership is one of the most popular attractions in @NMAAHC. Well done Star Child.

Cheyenne Jackson has launched the "One Job Away" campaign on Instagram, which spotlights actors on the verge of losing their SAG-AFTRA health insurance if they don't meet the guild's annual minimum of $28,000 in earnings. • Jackson received "hundreds" of submissions in the less than 24 hours after launching the campaign. • Last year, Jackson was "one gig short of getting my insurance." He reached out to friend Kathy Bates to see if she could get him any role on "Matlock" because he was just $6,000 away from meeting the guild's minimum to qualify for health insurance. • “She told me, ‘I have good news and bad news for you. The good news is, I got you a role on “Matlock.” The bad news is, you have five lines and you don’t have a name.’ I was like, ‘Sign me up! No ego amigo here.’ I played no-name detective. I searched a crime scene and I said, ‘Hey, Sergeant, we got some blood over here.’” • Jackson tells Variety: "The bigger conversation is just the way that residuals and SAG are set up. I make OK money on residuals, but a lot of that residual does not go toward your SAG dues. You’re essentially starting over every year. An actor can make $500,000 one year, but when they don’t make much the next year, the $500,000 doesn’t help with the following year’s health insurance minimum.” variety.com/2026/film/column…
