A client of mine who had a hx of benign brain tumor, was told to take statin--developed rapid-onset total amnesia. Wife, an NP, rushed him to hospital ,suspecting a stroke. Stopped statin, memory returned. Here is a guy whose heart is perfect (CA score 0) but whose brain is vulnerable ( recurring tumors) who NEEDS cholesterol, and MD is STILL pushing a variety of cholesterol-reducing measures. He's a serious carbaholic (wife is in ketosis) I want him in ketosis as well!

Imagine a patient named Jane, who struggled for years with obesity and type 2 diabetes. Determined to regain control over her health, she adopted a low-carb, ketogenic diet. Her commitment paid off…. she lost over 50 pounds and significantly lowered her blood sugar levels. Yet, despite her impressive progress, her doctor remained critical, repeatedly warning her about the supposed “risks” of her dietary approach and urging her to adopt a plant-based diet while continuing her medications. Undeterred by the lack of support, Jane persisted with her low-carb approach and experienced even greater improvements. Her diabetes went into remission, and she was able to discontinue her blood pressure medications. But when she returned to her doctor, now healthier than ever, he dismissed her success. Instead of acknowledging her achievements, he remained uninterested and continued to push for a plant-based diet and more medication. Jane’s experience is far from an isolated case. Many patients eager to explore dietary changes encounter similar resistance from their doctors. This pattern raises important questions about the true priorities of primary care providers. Are they genuinely focused on improving patient outcomes, or are they more invested in maintaining the cycle of prescription refills and referrals to specialists? The refusal to recognize the therapeutic potential of nutrition almost feels like a deliberate choice, as if the medical establishment is more concerned with preserving the status quo than with fostering genuine health and well-being.

Love this, Tro. Beef and bacon have been around a lot longer than the obesity epidemic. Refined carbs and seed oils are the newcomers, and they showed up right when the waistlines did.

More than 90% of U.S. adults have signs of metabolic dysfunction. Metabolic health physicians @DoctorTro and Dr. Caroline Roberts discuss how chronic disease has become so common that it can seem intractable—and how nutrition interventions could help change the course.

I literally had a patient that developed life-threatening thrombocytopenia with a single digit platelet count after taking a statin for the first time and the cardiologist asked him to try it again What the fuck is wrong with this field… ?

It still perplexes scientists why America got so fat… But rest assured the AHA is still working on its hypothesis that beef and bacon did it 🤔

Big thanks to @VinnieTortorich for having me on the @FitnessConfidential Podcast: vinnietortorich.com/2025/07/… We talked about how GLP-1s are being handed out far too casually, often without real lifestyle support, and why we should be more concerned about the muscle loss that comes with them. We also got into hormone therapy, overprescription in general, and what too many clinicians are getting wrong. Worth a listen if you want more info on these topics.
