The biggest movie of the moment is maybe the most revealing about our current place in culture.
Because what *you* think the truth is doesn't matter anymore.

Clayface is the rare 7/10 that I kinda love the more I think about it. It’s just slightly above average (maybe even a 6) but it’s such a classically made movie-ass movie.
An ideal comic book movie. Goopy, colorful, cheesy, easy to digest yet has some deeper ideas too. Fun time.

It's always nice to pull one quote out of a 42-minute video, isn't it? Which tells me this was either cherry-picked, or the person posting it didn't actually watch the whole thing. I say through this vile and disgusting video for 42 minutes. Not just cherry picked one quote.
The irony of Shoe0nHead claiming that cases like Cornell make "real victims less believable" (40:10) is incredible, considering she spent much of the video doing exactly that.
Without fail, every time a sexual assault case makes headlines, it's the same shit. "But what if she's lying?" And suddenly we're dissecting the woman's sex life, her behavior, her credibility, and whether her trauma responses are believable enough.
She starts the video mocking whatever women are supposedly outraged about this week (00:15). Then she insinuates the accuser only called it rape because she was embarrassed and got uninvited to a Halloween party (11:44–12:04). She mocks women sharing their own sexual assault experiences (15:16) and then ridicules trauma responses (20:43–22:02).
And here's something that really bothers me. Jane Doe initially consenting to a threesome does not mean she consented to a gangbang. It certainly doesn't mean she consented to other men being invited upstairs, or someone advertising her as "free pussy" in a fraternity group chat. Shoe0nHead even acknowledges those messages (07:06). How the hell is that not worth discussing more?
Instead, she spends an absurd amount of time going off about feminism, hookup culture, pornography, and women's sexual freedom (33:23–39:38). What the hell does any of that have to do with whether this woman was sexually assaulted?
And here's another thing. According to RAINN's estimates, approximately 73% of sexual assaults aren't even reported to police, and only around 2.8% result in felony convictions. Yet every time one of these cases comes up, the discussion somehow turns into false accusations being the biggest problem.
I'm sorry, but that's ridiculous.
The accused absolutely deserve due process. Nobody is arguing otherwise. But the accuser deserves to have her allegations properly investigated too. Not being criminally charged doesn't automatically mean someone didn't commit the alleged acts, and it certainly doesn't prove the accuser lied. Especially when the original prosecutor acknowledged he never received the full interview containing her explicit rape allegations.
Then she brings up Duke lacrosse and Rolling Stone (17:49–20:43), practically inviting everyone to assume this is another false accusation, while criticizing other people for jumping to conclusions. She mocks women's understanding of consent (23:20–25:30), speculates about the accuser's motives, and somehow presents herself as the reasonable, objective person in the room.
If she's so concerned about real victims not being believed, maybe she should consider what spending 42 minutes mocking women, dismissing trauma, and publicly humiliating a potential victim does to those same victims.
Vile and disgusting person.
Shoe0nHead dropped her Cornell 7 video on YouTube
"One of the worst parts about all this is how it absolutely makes real victims less believable. Oh, it's just another Duke lacrosse situation or Rolling Stone or Mattress Girl. These viral cases that blow up and then slowly fall apart are the most damaging to real victims”
There's no two ways about it. Shoe is just running defense for the Cornell 7.
Her latest video is an attempt to frame Jane Doe as a manipulator at worst, and at best someone who "regretted" her consensual actions because of some undefined moral shame.

QRTs have every mouth-breathing liberal bashing this poor woman while saying that Democrats are the champions of trans rights, which is strange when I’ve seen several ads from several Dem candidates for this election cycle that are actively transphobic.
Trans voter to @AOC: Trans people in America feel like they've been abandoned by the Democratic Party, that we are a losing issue, that it's not worth defending us. What do you say to that?

The real, actual accusation being made here that you are supposed to take seriously:
- The show’s premise — having a witch as a neighbor — was inspired by a real life anecdote of a neighbor’s child asking the creator if she was a witch
- The show includes a scene in which the main character’s adult neighbor is closeted and gets offered estrogen symbolically
KiwiFarms user “Wigger Nationalist” concludes that she must, therefore, be a pedophile grooming her real life neighbor’s child
Bunlith (animation with PS1-style art) faces grooming accusations after show's HRT scene was revealed by creator Lilith Walther to be based off real anecdote involving a neighbor's child. Lilith also had Bluesky likes of gore and 9/11 porn.

Modern Warfare reboots have always had the most rancid warcrime propaganda vibes, even for a series built on it.
But everything I’ve seen of this latest feels like the intel community worked overtime to make it so much more explicitly cruel and nihilistic. Vile top to bottom.
If only there was someone talking about societal collapse in an easily digestible way.
Oh wait, that’s me.

These last six months feel like some kind of breathless void in the discourse.
Most of the sharpest thinkers I know of appear to be on some kind of hiatus, or are depressed, or took a job somewhere, or are doing some kind of religious hermetic thing. Many are "going through the motions" and privately admit they are losing their direction.
If you look at each person's life trajectory and whatever appears to have diminished their output as writers, artists, thinkers and so on, it all seems just personal on the surface: but I suspect it may actually be a broader kind of 'exhaustion'. Their personal difficulties in their work seem only to be manifestations of a much wider cultural exhaustion.
We appear to be in a transitional era that goes on forever. Many have attempted to keep track of or to influence the general direction that culture is going in, and appeared to be doing so fairly well for a while. But by now, everyone who has attempted that task has been humbled deeply by a series of vague and inscrutable cultural shifts that have snuck in with quiet haste. The result has been total discombobulation and a wearying sense of empty instability.
Nobody knows what is next, and nobody appears to be in a strong position to shape what comes next either. Our compasses are failing us. Meanwhile the publishing industry continues its spectacular death, reading itself is collapsing, and even the anthropological realities of what it means to be human are now in question.
We've felt the "something's gotta give" feeling for so long that we are now numb, and any attempt at saying what will or could or might "give" now feels pointless. Building niche sideline underground IRL projects feels extraordinarily distant. Deep traditional religion appeals, but its logical endpoint is for each of us to shut up, withdraw, and embrace a life of silent devotion.
And above all -- spectacle is now boring, redundant; the wider culture is tired of LOOKING and clicking and subscribing and so on. Writers are tired of marching to the 24/7 tempo of that environment as well. Burnout is the chief export of this system -- for author and reader alike.
Whatever this is, it's clear to me that an era has very quietly ended and that whatever's "next" may not come at all, at least not for a long time yet.
